Hail mary needed new threads one time use took a shot on this thing. Actually cut new threads into solid steel. no, It's not it's intended purpose but it did the job and actually the threads still look pretty decent. Saved me and bailed me out on a $500 dollar part and 8 hours of labor. Appreciate this thing

I bought this die to create threads on a brass part that I was machining to fix an old, obsolete water softener system. The size and thread pitch were odd so i was happy to find that this die was even available as I did not want to try to single point cut the threads myself. Although it was labeled as a rethreading die I figured it would be able to cut threads in brass without any issues. It worked perfectly and made very clean, perfectly sized threads on my part. Since this is a large die (1-1/8"-16TPI) I felt that the cost was quite reasonable. It arrived quickly after ordering it.If you need this odd sized die to chase/clean existing steel threads or if you intend to cut new threads in a soft material like brass or aluminum then I would definitely recommend this die.

As described better than I expected just a shame I can’t find a die clamp for it had to use a 27mm spanner so I could cut a new thread

Affordable and worked as described with no issues, can’t ask for much more to be honest. Slowly ran it down my severely stripped lug stud and ran it back- perfect new threads.

This is for cleaning up bolt threads that are maybe rusty or bunged up and works great for that purpose. This is NOT for making NEW threads! If you buy it for that you will probably be disappointed.

A M6-1 nut was cross threaded and unfortunately the mounting bolt that got damaged is discontinued. That means hunt the pick-parts yards or try and fix this one. For $6 worth a shot. When this arrived it was test fitted against some know fresh M6-1 bolts. Some of them this threaded on ok and others it would begin to cut. On a known fresh bolt it should not have any issues. This die may not be very high spec but being able to salvage the bolt was more important than % of thread engagement. It is an interior bolt so no high stress or issue so long as it can torque to 6-8 ft-lbs.Sometimes if it begins the cut influenced by the damaged thread it won't match up. I didn't have a thread file to clean up the initial start. Took a chance. Ran the die down the bolt with Tapmatic cutting fluid and it progressed well. Threads joined into the good ones so I was happy in that regard too.The resulting threads are usable but until I get to re-assembe this interior I won't know. The fresh nut has wobble that concerns me if the threads will even take 6-8 ft-lbs. In all decent but probably better re-thread dies out there. It is chamfered at both ends. Check which orientation seems the better side for your application. The China side down was the orientation I used. In that orientation it was able to spin down some of the bolts without it cutting.
