There's a large metal weight in the base. When it arrived it simply rattled and was loose. The plastic tabs designed to hold it into place were obviously weak and poorly made. As the wires aren't well insulated, it could easily have made contact between the positive and negative contacts, creating a spark or fire hazard. I insulated the circuit boards and applied two-sided tape to the weight to fix it into place - a fix that took only minutes and should have been done during production. While it works, don't trust it out of the box!

the bose cradle has a lot more heft with a metal base, but is $15 moreboth work well and this one has an extra portstandard power sources will not work with eitheradditional current is needed
