This tool is absolutely awful!!! I didn’t have a chance to use it before their return period was over so now I am stuck with an expensive tool that doesn’t cut!!!! The blade is dull and just marks the matting- it does not cut at all!! I requested a refund but they refused- RUN!!! Do not purchase this!! I was so excited to offer oval cutouts for matting but this does not even work!! Do not use in your matting- it will leave scratches all over your matting!!!!!!!!!!!

I can definitely work with this tool, but it's not as easy to use as I'd hoped. Still, it beats trying to cut it free-hand!!- Be sure to read the instructions because using this item is not intuitive.- You will need to practice several times before using it on an actual board you want to keep.- Each cut requires several passes to get through the board, which means you have to exactly re-trace your cuts in order for them to look smoothly and not tear the top-layer of matting, or "fung-up" the bottom layer and leave "sniglets" of paper around the edge. (It's not proper English, but you get the idea.)- Also, you will go through blades quickly because they have to be extremely sharp for it to cut a smooth curve. Be sure to buy plenty of extras!!

It's a great tool to use in your hobby arsenal. Learning curve is low, but practice on some scraps before sinking in on your main pieces to use in the frame. It's made fairly well, base is plastic, arm is metal, pieces of the cutting head are metal. The only thing so far I dislike is if you accidentally break the metal tips on the bottom I don't think you can replace them. Don't drop it, they look as if they would break easily.Other than that I like It along with my Logan matcutter. It's helped me sink into a hobby that I would be spending money on at one point to do it sooner because I'm doing the work and it's just cost me time, materials, trial and error (which is part of the hobby).

Great tool. Makes professional cuts and give you choice and flexibility. Forget the frame shop.Suggestions:1) Figure on making 5-10 practice cuts.2) Make sure you are working in a well lit space.3) Use a soft slip sheet and make sure the tips under the base engage fully with the mat board being cut. Use adequate pressure on the base and make sure you figure out how to keep the pressure on without interfering with the movement of the cutting arm; keep the base stable and the tips from coming loose form the matt board.4) Keep your blades sharp; change it every 3-4 cuts and remove any matt board cutting build-up at the tip (prevents the blade from cutting cleanly).5) When pulling the lever arm up to make the blade cut deeper, make sure you keep pressure on the cutting arm to keep the cutter carriage from moving or swimming out of existing cut-line.

The way it is so difficult to find an oval or circle cut mat in my area, I thought it would be some kind of unnatural act to create one. When I did find an oval mat it was nearly 3 times what a rectangle cut mat cost. This item is a little tricky to start out with, but first mat cut almost perfect. Then I went to Logan's web site, watched the video they have on how to use it. Works like a charm! Couldn't be any easier! I actually think it is easier than a rectangular mat to cut. Set the gauge arm. Set the difference gauge. Center on your mat. Then rotate it a bit, turn the mat, rotate it again, adjust the blade depth and repeat 3 times. There you are! A nicely cut oval mat! Adds so much to any art piece and every one thinks it was so hard! I am even cutting mats with 3 or 5 ovals in them and putting several photos into one mat or using it to highlight several areas of one picture. Love it! Just remember to buy plenty of blades so you never run out. Key to a good mat is a sharp blade.
