I bought this strictly for cutting non-straight lines. I have a mat cutter to do the standard cuts but got this to do more detailed cuts around the artwork. The tip of the blade broke early on but otherwise it did its job well!

I wish I could give zero stars--this is the most useless thing ever. All I did was waste my money on the cutter, and then on the mat board that was ruined. The cutter does not slide along smoothly. I'm not sure if the blade isn't sharp enough (it was brand new) or what, but the mat turned out completely unusable.

As the title suggest, use this for small unimportant matt jobs. Not for serious matt cutters. Hard to keep a straight edge on a long boarder, even with some sort of ruler in place.

I thought I had enough hand/arm strength to use this product. Unless it has a track bar to guide it, a ruler won't do, it has a mind of its own and will cut its own path.I should have read previous reviews before ordering...lesson learned.

I purchased the Logan Freestyle Basic and was disappointed by the general failure of the blade gripping mechanism. No matter how much the knob was tightened the blade managed to slide backward (from a 90 degree angle) to failure. After some adjusting (tightening the front screw) the item did manage to work. For the modest amount of money I spent on the Logan product it did more than pay for itself after one completed job (professional matting can be pricy in my area), but not without a headache.For a little more money I could have picked up a Dexter Mat Cutter that has no known "slipping" malfunction issues with the added feature of cutting both 45 bevel and 90 degree angles. A good "used" Dexter can be picked up on Craig's List for about $10.

I got this matt board cutter with the hopes of being able to frame some things for myself and my freinds as gifts. However, using a mattboard cutter is not for that of a novice. I had two attempts at cutting my board, and i messed it up twice. I am sure if you have experience at cutting boards this is the perfect item for you, but if you have never cut a matt board before...have fun screaming and cursing.
