Pros - Works with hydrometerCons - Expensive for what it is, hydrometers are truly not needed for someone who is not a commercial maple sugaring operation (just use temperature and syrup crystallization as your gauge), Good luck trying to get maple syrup in the cup if you are doing a small batch and take care not to burn yourself, Not a good design, in the end was led astray by people who said you needed one of these for maple sugaring - they are more of a pain to deal with then just using a thermometer in the syrup and just another thing to junk up your house; with the amount of sap that you are dealing with as a backyard sugarer you most likely will not have enough time between noticing the syrup temperature get to 219 and filling this thing with syrup, before your syrup on the oven starts crystallizing. And this is hard to fill up from a pan unless you have a substantial amount of sap in your boil and have been boiling for days on end (most home sugarers will not if you are boiling as sap as it comes during the season instead of storing it for weeks and doing a huge multi-day boil. Not worth the effort.Because of amazon's poor return window policy now I just have a piece of equipment i will never use junking up my house. another environmentally unfriendly amazon product going to waste.

This test cap is a great addition to our supplies for making Maple syrup. I really like the position of the handle. The base is very heavy and will NOT be bumped over. Thanks for the quality equipment.

On the sticky label it says "Made in China" and on the actual product its stamped on the base Miller mfg which is in the USA. This is very sturdy and I have a feeling it will last a life time.

Made of strong and sturdy materials. Works nicely when coupled with hydrometer. Seems expensive.

Good product, although pricey! Wish the label would have come off easier; was not sure if any contamination came off of it when dipping in syrup pan

Works well. Came exactly as pictured. Kind of wish i had bought one with a hook that fits onto the side of the boiling pan though so it stayed warm and made less mess pouring it back and forth. Happy with it otherwise.
