I’ve had this tumbler for two years. The “Lifetime” label is a joke. The plastic parts are fine, but the metal corner brackets, the main center rod that runs through it, and key components of the latch have all completely rusted away. Literally crumbling apart. If you want a short-lived tumbler there are many at half this price. If anyone finds a tumbler that either uses rust-proof metal or no metal, please let me know!

If you reaaaallllyyy liked building legos, but wished they were huge and rolled around while you tried to fit things together that needed to start at peculiar angles while being pounded on with a mallet, and wished the directions called out pieces by letter designations that were marked on the instructions, but not on the parts, so you had to look at each part and find the one unique feature that part has the that other 6 don't have, then try to figure out which edge you're working on...and did I mention it rocks and rolls all the time?...then you're gonna love this!I think it's going to do its intended purpose well (converting chicken manure into usable fertilizer), but it was a 2 1/2 hour aerobic tag team puzzle to put it together.(Would it really be that hard to mark each of the sides with the part number/letters while injection molding them? Or maybe they are marked, but the parts are black and I just didn't see them while building it in the living room on Friday evening (boy do we know how to party or what?))Once assembled, somehow, the locking pin was about an inch away from engaging with the locking holes...took part of it apart and when we put it back together the same way, it worked (applied a little english to it while reinstalling the piece inside on the aeration tube and it slipped into proper place). It seems like the locking positions have the door pretty high up for loading purposes, and the lower position is closer to dumping than shoveling out, too. But, it's a good size, it fits the space we have between the coop and the garden nicely, it's easy to spin the can, and the door opening is huge compared to a lot of the other options.Would recommend, but would probably look for something easier to assemble next time.

This is my second Lifetime composter. I received the 80 gallon about 7 years ago as a gift. It has lasted well and is still in use. I just assembled this one today. It took my son and me about an hour to put it together. I read through the directions before starting and checked that everything was there. We followed the directions step by step. They were clear and easy to follow. I have no complaints at all. Instead of using open end or box end wrenches, we used a small ratchet wrench and sockets. I am very pleased and would order this product again. I also arrived two days earlier than expected!

Had to laugh as reading the reviews there were a lot of complaints about ease (or lack of) of assembly and I thought 'no problem, I build things all the time'!!!From opening the box, checking all the parts, laying everything out, building it and getting it in the garden took 2 and three quarter hours lol!!! With one hinge put on wrong way round and also having to grind off a weld spot on the hinge pin as it wouldn't go into the female connector otherwise.Great solid composter and seems to be working well, just lay aside some time for building. Hammer, starry screwdriver, pliers, drill and a socket set needed

Just received the composter yesterday. I was a bit leary with assembly because of the reviews from .ca and .com. The instructions were well done (only one or two times I was scratching my head) but nothing completely off the wall to put together. (An extra hand does help as well, it gets a bit awkward with the shape)The materials are sturdy, when assembled the unit rotates freely and smooth. The door is secure and easy to open. The opening for that matter is huge, very easy access to add items and dump them out.I cannot comment on the lifespan as of yet, but will edit if there are issues.

Some reviews have commented that the tumbler is hard to put together. As long as you can read directions, you shouldn't have a problem. Each step needs to be done in a particular order so if you don't follow the order it will probably take you longer to assemble. My husband put it together in about an hour.Reviewers also mentioned that you can smell the compost. Duh. It really only stinks when you stick your face in it and how often are you going to do that. I imagine most people would not be placing a compost been outside a window so this is a none issue. The door latch is garbage though. I wanted to wait a few months before I commented to see if it would break. It still works but it feels like it will not work much longer. It jams up from the material inside getting lodged in mechanism. Once the latch breaks, I bet it can be replaced but I feel like I shouldn't have to replace it for the cost. That's why I gave it 3 stars. I also gave it 3 stars because the lock that prevents the tumbler from turning, locks the barrel at an odd angle. Maybe it was assembled wrong, maybe not.Not really an issue but I thought I would mention that the tumbler will leak if there is excess water inside. Just a heads up in case someone plans to station it on cement.

This tumbler turned out to be perfect for what we needed. The size is just right for our smaller garden and greenhouse with a medium size yard. It did take both myself and my husband to put this together. All the parts were easy to assemble but a second set of hands helped immensely. My first batch of compost is not quite done (since I keep adding to it) but it is obviously getting there...nice and warm inside the barrel, no smell, and partial decomposition already. My only hint to new owners is to pay attention which side you put the locking mechanism on. The holes determine where the barrel locks into place and I wanted the door to be able to be up top when adding more compost. Originally I had the lock on one side (my right) but it couldn't lock where I wanted so we moved it to the other side (my left) and it worked out great. Not a big deal and it may not matter to you but I thought I'd mention it. All in all this is quite a nice unit. My dad bought two different compost barrels/tumblers, one that tumbles end over end, and another (cheap brand) that has a plastic handle for turning the barrel. I bought this one. When comparing....the end over end one became heavy and hard to turn....after 6 months, still no compost. The cheaper model (K) with the handle...broke after one weeks use. It was returned and a second one brought home. It broke within the week, surprisingly it was the doors that broke completely off their hinges when turning and not the handles that broke. The lifetime tumbler has had no problems as of yet, and my dad is jealous of my choice!! We've recommended this to everyone.
