Excellent quality. Easily cuts through material. Warning though, it is very aggressive.

Just finished cutting more than thirty holes in poplar. Tool didn't slow down once. But it took a sharp knife and a small pry bar to get tool out of package. A Burnz a Matic easily cleaned wood debris caught in tool. Threw away the box, but the tool's a keeper.

The case they come in is really nice.. holds them secure.. The bit chucked right up in my Dremel multispeed tool.. I'm working in Pecan wood, that's fairly hard.. the bit cuts pretty quick, you don't want to get it into your hands, so be careful.. it'll take a good 16th off a corner every pass.. The dust is impressive.. I had to wear a mask.. The thing turned a1-1/2" square piece into a 1-1/8th" round piece say 8" long in about 30 min. The ability to "feather" is what I was after.. it will carve smoothly and make curves easily.. Occasionally you find yourself wishing it would eat a little faster, but this is not a super fast removal tool.. Not on a hard wood like Pecan.. Pine, it would really go to work.. but Oak or Hickory, this tool is more suited to carving smaller objects.. I'm satisfied, mainly because I simply didn't have anything else, that worked better.. a chainsaw blade cutter on a 4" grinder would eat a lot faster, but it's not nearly as controllable.. After about 3 hours in that Pecan, I can't tell that it's any duller than it was when I started.. It still eats just as fast.. so It seems really durable..

I'm new to using such a tool but my initial impressions are good. I use it to carve out the bowl of wooden spoons. It has performed admirably. This easily saved hours of difficult knife carving. Obviously it is a very aggressive burr that removes lots of material. Do not expect your wood carving projects to come out smooth with this baby, that is what high grit sandpaper is for. I've used it on one walnut wood spoon so far and after using it there were no signs of wear. I expect it to have a long life in my kit.I use it in combination with the Dremel Lite cordless rotary tool. To Dremel's credit the Lite model will make this burr work, however you have to be gentle as the motor quickly becomes bogged down. This burr really needs a more powerful motor behind it to take advantage of the aggressive bites it wants to take. A corded tool or something pneumatic would work better.

I'm working on a job where I'm removing and replacing about 400 lineal feet of baseboard and installing new black baseboard. I want to cope the inside corner joints and by my count, I have 28 of those inside corners to cut and finish.45 Degree miters never work properly, walls are never square or plumb and wood trim moves around with humidity changes. 45 degree miters will result in visible gaps on inside corners, especially with black trim work. I don't like or use filler and I want tight joints that won't ever pop open - coping is the only proper choice.Coping a complex baseboard can be a real pain to cut properly and quickly and many finish trim installers use simple trim profiles for exactly that purpose - make the cuts with a cheap fret saw, slam it in and get the job done. Not me.This carbide bit was powered with a Foredom TX flexible shaft tool and using a power miter saw and a Japanese back saw, I had the ideal setup for quickly and accurately carving out the complex profile of the trim I'm using (see the photos). I am able to create the coped profile you see with those tools for each inside corner in about 5 minutes. The top curve is nearly impossible to cut with a fret saw - I tried. This little carbide bit cuts the top round profile perfectly and works well on the flat areas as well and it's a LOT faster and more accurate than using a hand fret saw. The nice part about this carbide bit is that if it loads up with wood that slows down the cut, I simply burn the wood debris out of the bit with a propane torch (manufacture recommended technique) and the bit is clean and ready to go.The photos are test cuts I made before I began installation and that's fresh black paint for emphasis to show the trim profile. I used a coarse carbide bit which is the perfect balance of speed and control in the white pine trim work. Hope that helps!
