This SO Cutter is a life saver! Before in the field as a commerical electrician we had to strip SO cords with a knife which left a high risk of knicking the wires inside, bought this to help minimize this risk and have yet to knick a cord as long as you set the height right on a test piece.

It's a Knipex, although the plastic feels a little chincy, it works well. It's seen a ton of use on multiconductor cable, and when adjusted right makes quick work of stripping jackets.

Most guys have Greenlee cable strippers in the shop. I am partial to knipex tools. This tool works well and is just as easy to use. If you aren’t familiar: there is an adjustable blade to set your cut depth. Test it out on the end of your cable if you aren’t sure. Peels insulation right off.

I have several large gauge wire strippers which are slightly cumbersome and not always accurate as to depth of cut.This little stripping tool is simple to use but absolutely has a learning curves, so practice before you hit the job site or begin your wiring project.Overall, for the cost and performance I feel this is a good tool to keep in your arsenal of equipment but I can't honestly say every single cut is perfect. Again, it's a learning curve and I'm still somewhat learning the ins and outs of this tool.The tool is holding up well and the price was low enough to not really stress about.I really like the tool and yes, I would recommend this stripping tool for larger gauge wires but take your time and adjust the blade depth very carefully prior to making any cuts. Every time you change wire, be sure to adjust the blade.

My thoughts. Super disappointed in this stripper. I have other knipex tools and I rant and rave about them. Rather than return the stripper I took it apart to see what the inside looked like. The way the cutting blade rod fits into the plastic adjustment knob is laughable at best if I consider the knipex quality I am used to. There is a spare cutting blade inside the case which is nice. The spring is beefy, the case feels sturdy. Fix the blade/adjustment knob design and I would buy. More or less build it to the quality we are used too from knipex.

amazing little tool. Used it this past week to build dozens of new extension cords and some 8/5 SOOW heavy duty twistlock cables for the entertainment industry. I love not being worried any more about nicking the inner conductor jackets when stripping off the exterior.Takes just a little getting used to, but amazing.
