Very easy to install, fit in the plate that came with house, twisted right on.Both work, not over powering alarm, enough to wake you, not break your eardrums.

I purchased this two pack of smoke detector / carbon monoxide detectors. One worked as expected and the other was dead on arrival. I had tested with the included AA's as well as two sets of fresh replacements. I had also tried a battery swap between the working and non-working unit.I called Kidde customer support and was informed that the included AA's are complementary and are not guaranteed to work and unless I purchased and tested with one of three very specific models of AA batteries (noted on page 19 of the included user manual) they would not help me troubleshoot or consider a replacement.I will not be purchasing this brand again in the future.

These seem to be well made enough and were easy to install. Using the test button shows it functions, and you are supposed to test it every week. One thing for sure is to keep the user guides because you will need them if you have to decipher the blinking LEDs and alarms. Time will tell how long they last and hopefully will never be needed in an emergency.
