My water softener stopped working and had an error message on the display, upon investigation, I found that the cam gear had a section that was stripped so the motor could no longer turn the cam to perform the recharge function. I replaced it and found that the motor turned the cam over and over without stopping until another error popped up. I did a little research and determined that it was unable to determine the cam position and that the likely cause was the switch. I went to take the switch off a piece of it fell off. Yep. Needed to be replaced. Ordered this replacement switch. Went in easy. Worked perfectly. We have soft water again and my shampoo is super sudsy again.

I have a Kenmore Ultra Soft 880 water softener that was displaying a code 3 error. After reading the comments I thought I would give it a try with a $11 part from amazon and watch a you tube installation video. The installation was easy, thanks to the excellent video, a small phillips head screwdriver was all that was needed. I am very happy it worked saving me a very expensive service call or a pitch for a new water softener.

Didn't know if the old one still worked or not , replaced all 3 parts as recommended just in case. Easy to replace , just two screws. Save lots of money and very long wait appointment from Sears home services. I am not even that handy. Found some similar how to videos on YouTube and started from there. Only tool needed was a screw driver.
