I bought this because the specs looked great ... clamps on rod, holds filler spool, works with spinning and casting reels, adjustable line tension, a line counter, and reasonably priced.I was excited to receive it ... 'tis the time of the year to check, reverse or renew the line on the rods... I have a dozen or so.I started with my new rod and reel, a light bass/panfish rod, and was eager to spool up some of the 8 carrier, super slick, premium braid I'd purchased. The line spooler was easy to attach to the rod. Loading the filler spool is a bit tricky to get the half turn spool holder through the hole in the line spooler, but it worked as directed. Spinning/bait caster setting filler spool direction setting is clearly marked (although I fail to see how one position is better than the other). The tension band fits the filler spool easily, but is a bit tricky the first few times to get the line through the eylet, biut gets better with practice. The metal guides for the line counter allowed the line to get behind them, and getting the line freed can be frustrating. The counter off/on is easy to engage. The counter reset does not zero the counter numbers in the viewing window. I mounted my reel, attached the line and started filling the reel. The counter number window is small, and the numbers are not easy to see when filling a reel. .. which was not a issue, as the counter doe not work reliably, with 10 lb braid, which is slick and thinner than a human hair. Ok, it is really fine line. So, I tried spooling up the 20 lb premium, 8 carrier, super slick line for my larger spinning reels. Same issue with the counter .. unreliable to completely dysfunctional. The counter does work with larger 20 lb mono filler line .. but is still hard to see, and the zero is offset on reset, so the hundreds digit is sort of in between. I ended up using my old, but reliable, clip on line counter to measure my fill lengths. At high tension levels, the filling is quite jerky. I did not return the item -- it has problems .. the unreliable to useless line counter (and the line behind the guides problems), the balky filler spool shaft, and the jerky filling.... Thus the 3 star rating for a product that falls short of expectations in several ways, but the unreliable, balky, cheap feeling line counter is the primary issue.

This is a big improvement over the ordinal line spooler from KastKing line spooler. Works great with both bait caster and spinning reels. It is simple to use. The KastKing Kalibrate fits any rod and spool sizes 3.5” wide by 4.5” diameter. It does away with line twist. This is going to be perfect for spooling new reels. KastKing has release another great product. I highly recommend you get this one.

I love this thing. It puts tension on the line.It removes the possibility of a twist. It's easy to use. It's fast. What's not to love????I read several one star ratings, and I think they are to be ignored. If you put it on the rod properly (twsh), you cannot injure your rod. It should be quite loose. The line counter works as advertised, but it only goes up to 999', which really isn't that big of a deal. And you can to some extent adjust the tension if you play around with it.My only (one star worth) of complaint is that it doesn't hold larger spools. I have a standard spool which is 1000m and 4" across, and it doesn't fit on the holder. Pity given it would have only taken a tiny bit more plastic for them to be compatible...I've put on 1000 yards onto 2 reels now, and it was faster, simpler, better tensioned, and more uniform than any of the other 100 reels I've done. I'm very happy with it.

Before buying this product, we often encountered line twists and tangles, especially when re-spooling our spinning reels, and this was the reason we were looking to purchase a line spooler. The first reels we re-spooled with this product seem to be free of twists and tangles. We also appreciated that once the line spooler was set up on the rod, re-spooling the line was a single person job. The built-in line counter was handy in knowing how much goes on the reel, and can also be used to keep track of how much is left on the spool for future use. The line spooler is mostly made of plastic, but it still feels durable. We found the spool attachment screw to be a bit fiddly, and found that one brand of line did not work as smoothly because that fishing line brand had an additional notch in the center hole; it still worked, just needed some extra attention. The instruction sheet is well illustrated and has two sides, one set of instructions for casting reels and one for spinning reels. The instructions are fairly easy to follow, but there are numerous steps involved. Watching a video instruction would perhaps be more helpful for some folks. Overall, we are happy to have it and look forward to easier re-spooling jobs in the future.

I can't speak to longevity as I just got the spooler. I can say that after reading the instructions through a couple of times it was easy to set up and get working. The only issues that I had were attaching the device to the rod can be awkward if you don't have a good place to lay the pole down while attaching it, but not really that difficult. The bands provided for tension worked really well, I was able to put enough tension on it that I had to adjust my drag to reel in the line on a Penn Battle III. And they are easy to adjust, both to tighten and to loosen. I had issues with the line counter right at first, with 20lb braid, .007", when I put the line in the slot it got underneath the metal guides very easily. It was a small pain to get it worked out from under them but then I stretched the line between my fingers and made sure it was centered in the slot and it worked with no issues. The scissors are not a selling point for this unit, they do not cut well and the handles are soft rubber on the outside and feel spongy when trying to use them. Not sure how long they will last.

Great for spooling line but the line counter only worked once out of 6 times. I should have bought a separate spooler and line counter but this was supposed to do both. Very disappointed.

Fantastic little machine to spool up your fishing reels, SUPER easy to use and gives a line footage of how much you put on. Line goes on kink free! A little bit heavy, but a SUPER Spooler!!

Awesome little gadget! I just wish there was some rubber or protective coating on the clamp that goes on the rod, plastic on carbon fiber feels kinda rough! Just a thought!
