Fit for purpose and a lot less messy than using a cloth. Would recommend

I bought this as a special treat, it’s a little spendy, and why not just use a cloth? BUT, I love this! It is easy to use, and spreads the oil evenly and completely over my cutting boards and butcher block counter tops. Absolutely love it, it’s beautiful.

This is the second Boos applicator I have purchased. The first one I left behind for the new owners when we sold our home that had a Boos island top. I missed it so much that I purchased a new one for my cutting boards. A must have!

Seems well-made and is easy to use. Fits my hand well (small hands). I like the cap for storage. Some didn't have this.

Ordered this for my husbands Boos block. Works great with the oil and conditioner that we bought separately.

I really like that there is very little residue when finish using it. The cap also ensures there is no messes left anywhere.

A bit of a luxury item - you do not really need this to apply oil or cream to your wooden cutting boards. Any piece of foam or a clean cloth will work. But if you like the luxury of a nice wooden handle that has a good grip for your hand, you may enjoy this. The item loses a star from me because of the price and what you get for that. Normally I would not spend this much money for what is basically a foam applicator with a handle, but I wanted my companion to have something "nice" in addition to the Boos cutting board.

So. I really wasn’t sure why I got this as it seemed gimmicky and I wasn’t sold on it. Paper towel has to be just as good and as simple. I was wrong. This thing is amazing. The sponge itself is quite sturdy and I was surprised at how much better it worked over paper towel. It actually doesn’t feel like a sponge per say but more like a scouring pad. But it is still soft in a sturdy way. Anyhow, I put the usual amount of oil on my board I’m used to and using this showed me how much oil was soaking up in the paper towel. It isn’t a lie when people say they can use half of what they used to use. This was definitely a good purchase and I am glad I gave it a try. Worth every penny and will cut the other Boos stuff I use on my board in half easily. I know it’s not a display item really but it would be cool if it was available in the differing wood colour the boards come in. That’s just me liking matchy matchy stuff though.

I looked at the two choices for this type of applicator. I was set to buy the one that is about half the price, but noticed a lot of reviews about how the pad part of the applicator was breaking into small pieces. The only complaints about this one seemed to be about price, so I went ahead and made the purchase.Pros:1. I really like having the cap for storage and to help keep it clean2. Helps you achieve an evenly spread coating on the board. How much oil you add to the board is critical and I've learned to reduce the volume quite a bit. the first few times I still needed to use a paper towel to remove the excess.3. I was not sure about the feel of the handle as I looked online, but this actually is comfortable to hold.Cons:1. Price

Now it is easy to keep my boards and utensils well oiled. I keep this on the counter beside the board. A quick swipe every few days after a good cleaning and my board is getting better & better. This makes it so easy! Good quality sponge applicator seems sturdy enough to last and the wood top is a pleasure to use. No more wasted oil. It is a little thing, but it makes a difference. Wish I had this years ago.

I used to apply my Boos Block Mystery Oil by pouring a bit on the surface then using my fingers to apply since most sponge applicators ended up absorbing the oil vs distributing it. This applicator’s sponge is made for oil distribution. The PadThis applicator’s pad is stiffer than regular sponges and has larger pores which helps distribute material evenly. It feels rough when first applying but avoid putting pressure and follow the grain to help it glide. I do wish the pad was removable/replaceable, it doesn’t look like it’s removable. It also comes with a pad plastic cover which most other alternatives do not have. This helps keep the pad clean.CleaningI don’t wash this pad since I’m always using this after washing our Boos block. I simply put it back in the plastic cover after each use without washing. I’m not sure if the adhesive between the pad and wood puck would deteriorate over washes so I just avoid it all together. The WoodThe applicator’s wood is high quality and has some heft to it, let the weight of the wood do the work, try not to add additional pressure as it’s not needed and may cause the applicator to wear out prematurely. The SpreadA little oil goes a long way with this pad. I swirl the oil on the block first then run this applicator over it to spread. Works great. It’s a bit pricey but is a quality product.

we just had John Boos butcher block counter tops installed. I've been oiling them quite a bit as they are new and are soaking up quite a bit. The first few times I used a rag or paper towel and it seemed like most was not getting on the wood but rather soaking up in the rag/paper towel. Additionally, it seemed like there was not much oil left on the wood to soak up over night per directions. This applicator arrived today and so I decided to give it a whirl. First, I used so much less oil. Second, it was so much easier/quicker to apply. Third, a nice layer of oil is visible on the countertop so I know it will soak up over night and I can wipe off excess in the a.m. Prior to using the applicator, it really didn't seem like there was anything on the counter to get soaked up. I can't recommend this enough. I know some say it's pricey, but I know I'll recoup that in needing to buy less oil. I plan to re-oil my new countertops quite often and with this, it will be really simple and get much better results.
