I purchased this hub for the ethernet port. While the chipset negotiates 2.5G the throughput is less than 1Gbps, I estimate about 300mbs. This is plugged into a 40gbs Thunderbolt/USB4 port. Another adapter (non-j5create) achieves about 2300mbs, which is close enough to 2.5G for me.Testing done using iPerf https://iperf.fr/. Tests done using the same USB4 port and the same cable/switch.2 stars because the rest of the ports seem functional.

So far so good as it works with many USB4/Thunderbolt 4 Windows laptops, including the ASUS ZenBook Duo, the Lenovo Yoga Slim 7, and the HP Dragonfly Pro One. I deducted one star because the USB-C downstream port is only USB 3.1 maxing out at 10Gbps; wish it had another USB4 port with 40Gbps bandwidth.

I bought one of these and at first it didn't work. It turned out to be a faulty unit but my replacement works just fine on macOS 14 and 15 Beta with a M3 Max MacBook Pro. It operates in USB4 mode at 40 Gbps as you can see from the screenshot above (I have it plugged into a Thunderbolt 4 dock which in turn is plugged into my Mac). The onboard ethernet uses the more performant NCM driver rather than the ECM driver a lot of other inexpensive USB-ethernet adapters use on macOS. HDMI works as advertised: note that macOS itself has some restrictions around HDMI adapters that are not the fault of this device. Specifically, without some tinkering with EDID profiles, you're limited to HDMI 2.0 bandwidth on any HDMI adapters plugged into the Mac's USB-C ports which means at most you will have bandwidth for 4K60 RGB 4:4:4 8 bpc. Don't plug this into a high refresh rate monitor like a 4K120 one in macOS expecting to get that full refresh rate without doing some EDID tinkering using additional paid utilities.

Bisher hatte ich einen einfachen 10 Euro Hub, der am Windows Notebook (Lenovo) klaglos seinen Dienst verrichtete und meinem DQHD Monitor in voller Auflösung (5120x1440) bei 60 Hz ansteuern konnte. Leider war in Verbindung mit meinem neu hinzu gekommenen MacBook Pro M1 Max die maximale Auflösung an meinem Monitor nicht zu erreichen. Es waren lediglich 3180x1080 erreichbar. Sonst lief aber alles problemlos.Da ich den Bildschirm für mehrere Rechner verwende, hängt jedes Rechner per USB und HDMI an einem HDMI Switch, welcher Bildschirm, Tastatur mit Maus (Logitech Funk mit USB Funkempfänger) und WebCam umschaltbar macht. Somit kann ich binnen weniger Sekunden zwischen den Rechnern wechseln. Leider bringt das etwas mehr Komplexität in den Aufbau, aber es ist sicherlich kein ungewöhnliches Setup.Um auch mit dem Mac in den Genuss der vollen DQHD Auflösung 5120x1440 bei mindestens 60 HZ zu kommen, musste ein neuer Hub her. Der sollte dann aber auch mindestens 10 gbps Datenrate an den USB Ports ermöglichen.Nach leider doch einiger Suche und angesichts der massiven Preise für diese Komponenten bin ich letztlich bei diesem noch einigermaßen erschwinglichen Exemplar gelandet.Anforderung:- HDMI DQHD Auflösung mit mindestens 60 Hz- Mehrere USB Ports mit mindestens 10 GBits- USB-C PD zum Laden des Notebooks- Leistung 90 - 100 Watt, damit auch die Peripherie versorgt werden kannDas Äußere:Der Hub ist aus Alu gefertigt. Die Verarbeitungsqualität ist aber nicht auf bestem Niveau. Die Platine bewegt sich beim Einstecken von USB-Steckern minimal im Gehäuse, sie ist offensichtlich nicht verschraubt sondern liegt vermutlich in Führungsschienen.Die Kanten am Hub und fühlen sich recht scharfkantig an. Die Verarbeitung könnte für diesen Betrag schöner sein. Da er bei mir fest unter dem Tisch verbaut wird, ist das für mich aber nicht so wichtig. Einmal verbaut möchte ich ihn einfach vergessen können.Der Einbau und Test:Als erstes habe ich den alten Hub vom Rechner abgesteckt, alle Stecker vom Hub getrennt.Dann alle Stecker in den neuen Hub rein und den Hub am MacBook eingesteckt.--> Der Mac fand das nicht gut und MacOS ist gleich mal abgestürzt.Das hatte ich so noch nicht und war skeptisch, ob ich das Gerät nochmals anschließen will. Wer möchte sich schon wegen so einem Zubehör Probleme mit seinem Rechner einhandeln.Nach kurzer Bedenkpause ein neuer Versuch:- Alles vom Hub abgesteckt- Hub am Mac angeschlossen, alles ok- Stromversorgung angeschlossen --> PD Ladefunktion geht- HDMI angeschlossen --> es lebt noch alles und das Bild erscheint nach einigem Zucken und Flackern auf dem Monitor. So, nun noch die USB Verbindung dran, damit die Eingabegeräte auch funktionieren aber leider gibt es weder Maus noch Tastatur. Auch nicht, wenn ich den Funkempfänger direkt am Hub einstecke.Schon etwas genervt, Hub wieder vom Mac getrennt. Vielleicht ist der Stecker nicht beidseitig verwendbar? Das wäre dann aber minderwertig, da USB-C in jeder Richtung gehen soll.Stecker gedreht, wieder eingesteckt - weiterhin keine MausStecker wieder zurück gedreht - MacOS abgestürztLäuft, so macht das Spaß.Alles wieder abgesteckt und gleiches Spiel von vorne. Dieses mal schafft es auch die Maus und die Tastatur gesellt sich auch dazu. Geht doch! Vertrauen schafft das aber nicht.Auflösung noch hoch stellen --> 5120*1440 60Hz ist auszahlbar und wird auch übernommen. Kurz am Monitor im Menü geprüft, passt. Ziel erreicht.Hub wieder getrennt, dann wieder angeschlossen, geht. Na vielleicht nur etwas Zickig am Anfang.Hub wieder abgezogen und an ein anderes (Windows) Notebook angeschlossen, geht auch. Auch mit der hohen Auflösung.Vielleicht ist es ja jetzt geschafft.Noch schnell ein paar letzte Tests.Datenrate testen: NVMe Samsung kommt auf ca. 800 MB/s beim lesen. Das passt zu der praktisch erreichbaren Datenrate bei 10gbps. Somit auch ok, schneller ist der halt nicht.Aber: Thunderbolt Link Speed wird am Mac nur mit 20 gbps angezeigt. Der Hub geht also nicht in den maximalen 40gbps Modus. Das passt nicht zum Datenblatt und rundet das wackelige Bild leider ab.Fazit:Für einen Preis von 100 Euro finde Preis und Leistung nicht ok.Insbesondere die Abstürze unter MacOS sowie die teilweisen USB Probleme bei Verwendung dieses Hubs führen dazu, dass der Hub zurück geht. Ob mann die volle Link Geschwindigkeit braucht, kann jeder für sich entscheiden. Ich möchte aber gerne das bekommen, wofür ich bezahlt habe.Ich habe mich nun für ein Modell von Sonnet (Echo 11) entschieden. Dort läuft alles wie es soll, jedoch hat das auch seinen Preis. Ist mir aber lieber wie die Ungewissheit, ob es nun wirklich geht oder vielleicht auch immer wieder mal nicht. Ich habe auch nicht unbegrenzt Zeit und Lust zum Experimentieren. Es ist nur ein Hub - das sollte doch per Plug & Play möglich sein ohne Tage damit zu verschwenden.Vielleicht hilft diese Rezession etwas bei der Suche nach der richtigen Komponente. Für einen Mac kann ich diesen Hub nicht empfehlen. Da gibt es einfach zu viele Unstimmigkeiten. Letztlich entscheidet natürlich jeder für sich, wieviel er experimentieren möchte.An meinem Windows Notebook konnte ich auf die schnelle keine Probleme erkennen, jedoch habe ich da auch nicht alles getestet.

External display works fine at 60Hz whereas my laptop's external HDMI port would only work at 30Hz when using Ubuntu Linux 22.04.

I have a Dell XPS with thunderbolt 3 ports and the hdmi port on this hub will only support 4k at 30hz or 1440p at 60hz

I'm using it on M1 MBA. Everything's good until I turned on HDR, the screen blacked out. It is weird that an 8K60Hz hub can't even do 4K60Hz HDR.

Received the JCD403-1A model of this USB hub and when PD (Power Delivery) is used, the device makes a hissing noise or electrical distortion you can call it. Maybe I just received a defective unit, but deducting stars since this should have been caught during QC. Picked up a different brand USB hub and no issues. Will be returning this unit.

Been looking for a multi-use/connection hub, and I think I found it. It supports high resolution in 8 and 4K. Although I don't have any video that's in 8K (yet), I am able to use it on my 4K feed. I can simply plug in my laptop and three monitors and voila! I have yet to notice any kind of lag or delay -- nothing. Overall, I'm very happy with this product and I think this is a good find.

Internet connectivity is incredibly fast and consistent.I have it connected to the USBC port on my 12.9 iPad Pro with Ethernet connectivity as well as USBC power pass through as you can see from the picture.It works flawlessly and is instantly recognized by my iPad as an Ethernet 2.5G connection, while charging the iPad at the same time through the USC C power port on the dock.The dock has a thick aluminum exterior giving it a quality and reliable feel to it!I am really happy with this dock. In addition it has two 10Gbps USBA ports one 10Gbps USBC port and a USBC power port. The power port can pass through up to 100W of power, enough to charge my MacBook Pro 16.2 laptop.I also plan to use this with my laptop when traveling. I haven’t yet tested the HDMI connection as yet and will report back.This comes highly recommended even if it is a little expensive because it’s incredibly consistent and reliable.If I had one additional request for this portable dock, it would be a SD slot, but it’s not a deal breaker as I can connect my camera via the USBC data port.Once again, highly recommended!
