The die size is etched on the surface for easy identification. The first number represents the diameter of the machine screw die; the second number is the distance between the threads per inch. It's best suited for maintenance and repair work. Ideal for the areas with limited space, just use a wrench or socket!.

Received a "Hanson" die, not an Irwin. I was in the middle of a job and went ahead using it to clean up a few exhaust studs. As you can see, it suffered several chipped flutes, and I wasn't hard on it or using an impact, this isnt my first rodeo.Buyer beware.

Works as it’s supposed to. Purchased to replace a name brand die that I received in a kit. The said die was marked wrong and I was left without the one die that I needed to repair the threads on a specific eye bolt.

This was a replacement of one in my set but it works as advertised. Keep oils when cutting for best results

Made in USA. Cuts threads nicely and isnof very good quality. When it comes to cutting threads, dont cut corners buy purchasing lower quality knock offs. These work great. Great price too.

Needed a 4" 10mm bolt threaded all the way. Prior to ordering I was leery based on all the negative reviews, but couldn't find any mfr with as good of reviews.. Packaged as photo indicates - Hanson must be a subsidiary of Irwin. Used small amount of motor oil and took my time, reversing direction to clean the threads every revolution and was able to cut 2.5in of 10x1.5 threads in 10mm Grade 10.9 bolt (a high strength bolt). Used 1" deep impact socket with driver on lowest setting, and a 14" adjustable wrench. It was slow going. If you don't reverse the direction to remove cuttings it will bind and break the die.
