Keeps heat from escaping the attic. We had issues with how the opening of the attic was for years. I found this to help With that problem and it worked out great. Easy to cut, fits, it seals, looks good. Can't notice it's covering the hole unless you look up and stare. He loves it.

Too thin to really stop the draft

Mine seemed to spend more time dangling or laying in the floor than covering my attic fan. I even tried magnetic tape to no avail. Probably some user error involved here so I won't ding this item too hard as I think it is a good concept. I believe some type of gummy style adhesive might work better with the vertical/gravitational stresses involved here.

Well, it didn't actually safe a life but it did save us from succumbing to overheating in our new old house with a whole house fan that we thought was insulated...but wasn't. That left immensely hot air pouring into our house like a heater on full blast. We had to do something and this was the perfect fix (paired with magnet tape). So far so good. It's really cooled things off to the point where we can be comfortable.

Appeared to be very cheap foam with a foil backing when it arrived, and I had my doubts as soon as I opened the box, and saw the lack of quality. The Velcro tape was sufficient, and worked as it should. Foam was not cut square, had to manipulate it to get it to lay square with the attic fan vents. Sizing was not great, but that’s partially on me, I didn’t read the note halfway down the description saying that I needed to order a slightly bigger size for overlap. The foam side, is not asthetically pleasing. It obviously looks like I have a sheet of cheap foam on the ceiling. I’d almost rather have the foil aluminum look if we’re gonna go that route. At least it looks purposeful that way, and not cheap. I definitely could have gotten the same quality (or lack there of) of product for 1/3 of the price. I know, because I had it in my cart, but opted for the more expensive one (this one) cause it boasted better. Don’t buy this one. Believe me, you can find this same cheap quality for a lot less if this is the kind of quality you want.

The product comes folded and rolled. Unfortunately this leaves creases in the material BUT not so bad and it might straighten out if you have a couple days and a correct size flat space and flat weight to lay on it. Measured the Fan louvre opening, transferred onto the material and cut. Then apply one side of the hook and loop to the Louvre and the other to the material. It is Silver/reflective on one side and White foam on the other, Choose your side wisely. The sticky tape of the hook/loop will stick to either side. The White foam matches my ceiling a tad better. To get rid of the chance of drooping in the middle I also added a couple of tabs of the hook/loop on the center louvre. And the cold down draft of the 15 degree temps pretty much went away. I should put a heat gun on it BUT we just had a couple under 20 nights here and on the night before, the louvres were COLD. And Yesterday, Felt pretty much like the rest of the ceiling which is pretty well insulated. The reflective side facing up will be more effective in the summer BUT I also use it in the summer. Don't know that this is a take it down and put it up constantly kind of option but is doing fine for winter.

It was super easy to cut to size and apply the Velcro. Also very easy to adhere to the fan. Not sure if it’s actually saving me money but I feel like it is!
