If I didn't put both of these in the same frothing pitcher, I would have known that there was a 20 degree difference. Thats a lot!!

Since this came with 2, I have utilized one for milk and another for meat (though using them for separate purposes is not necessary - as they are stainless steel and are cleaned easily).Works great for milk as it comes with the colored areas as a gauge to let you know where the best temperature is. However, I did have to google around for that, as nowhere in the package or product description does it describe what they mean - hence my removal of a star. I do love the clip, keeps the item firmly on the cup and won't jiggle around while frothing.I have used the other thermometer for meat during both Thanksgiving and Christmas and it worked fantastic. Clearly displayed the temperature accurately (double checked against a separate thermometer from a different brand). Important to note: this cannot be left in the oven while cooking - it is only to be used as a quick check outside of the oven!Through steam and heat and lots of soakings and washings, the seal is still intact between the clear cover and outside casing so there is no moisture getting inside and obscuring numbers.Overall I'm very pleased with this item and even happier that it came with 2!

These are nice. They have an adjustable clip that allows you to position a thermometer in the frothing pitcher in a way that makes it easy to see the temperature and steam your milk. I got these specifically for my coffee set up, so I'm going to review them for the specific use case of steaming milk for coffee drinks.Until this point, I've used a digital thermometer, and I end up stopping right around 130 and watching the temperature tick up to around 145 before the temperature stabilizes. With this unit, the nice green band makes it visually easy to see that 130, and stopping there has the thermometer end up stabilizing right around 140.Is this more responsive than the digital thermometer when being used to steam milk? Possibly. Is it more enjoyable to use? Absolutely. I find it aesthetically pleasing, it can stay in the frothing pitcher when I'm not using it, it's easy to adjust for whatever size pitcher you're using it for, and it's easy to read when using it.I still have my digital thermometers, which I'm sure I'll find a use for, but especially if you're looking for a thermometer for coffee drinks, I think are the way to go.

I have been using my instant read thermometer for oven baking for taking the temperature of water for baking and coffee making when I saw these and decided to get them. The numbers on the temperature dial are easy to read. There are clips on each thermometer to attach to the side of a pitcher or bowl or whatever in order to keep the thermometer in and not have to hold it. The thermometer is also in a carrying sleeve that has a pen type of clip on it to carry in a pocket. The sleeve protects the point on the thermometer so it won't prick you if you want to carry it this way.I'm glad that they came in a package of two. I have placed them near the places that I will need them so that I am not always going back and forth in my kitchen when I need them.

I ordered these to use as meat thermometers, and although the markings are clearly targeted for non-meat uses, they measure the entire temperature range that you'd ever want for meat. Although I've only used one of them one time, I don't have any complaints! It reached temperature quickly enough, and seemed to be accurate, based on the done-ness of my turkey! An analog thermometer will never be as fast or have all the features of a digital thermometer, but I like that these will never need their batteries changed. And with 2 of them, I'll never have to worry about one breaking and leaving me without a thermometer. Overall, I'm pleased!

To optimize my home caffe latte- and cappuccino-making, I decided to go a bit more scientific than using the too-hot-to-touch method, which claims that the milk is hot enough once one cannot touch the pitcher anymore. This is of course subjective, some people have teflon hands, others stop far too early.I for instance consider myself rather heat-resistant, but my milk temperature was too low for my favorite morning drink, a cappuccino. Live and learn! To get beautiful microfoam, the milk should be heated between 140-155F, but it is also a matter of taste. An acceptable range for lattes (less foamed, colder milk) and cappuccini (more foamed, hotter) is indicated by color on the thermometer (green from 130ish to 155ish), which is super helpful, and tells me that the design is not just random, but thoughtful. It also covers a high temperature range where milk just gets oversteamed and separates. With the pro-type stainless steel clip that attaches to the milk pitcher, it is just a total pleasure to experiment and dial in the best tasting milk and milk foam with perfection from day to day.A lot of people claim that experience will make a thermometer like this unnecessary, but I realized that personal perception varies substantially from day to day.So, I really like the color-coded thermometer, which btw is very accurate when compared to a high-end cooking thermometer probe.
