Was looking for the best quality and ease of use route to connect my turntable to my Apple ecosystem. Hands down the easiest and best solution. Maybe not exactly what it was designed for, but now my vinyls play through ALL the HomePods in my house and the sound quality is excellent. Best purchase ever.

I bought this to stream myself playing drums live on TikTok and Instagram. It works PERFECTLY. Its exactly what I needed to be able to hook up my 4-channel mixer into my phone and have the audio and video by synced up perfectly, while maintaining high sound quality. The number of uses this device could potentially have is mind blowing. It may be a tad high priced, but this thing is the real deal.

I obtained this IK Multimedia iRig Stream Pro with the hopes of recording and streaming guitar for TikTok videos since that basically requires the use of a phone. The only plus with this device is that it comes with a lightning cable to connect to pre-iPhone 15 phones; however the cables this device use connect via a mini-DIN connector, so that's all you're going to use this cable for, and you cannot use other cables you have laying around.First and foremost, if you are testing this with some headphones, you MUST have it plugged into the phone AND have your camera ON, or else you will not get any sound at all and you will think "why isn't this thing even working".When connecting a Les Paul guitar directly into the instrument connector, I could not find any combination of MIC/INST Gain and Main Level that sounded good at all. It was all distorted. Maybe if you turn down the volume on the guitar or the volume gets so low that it does not sound well. In addition, at almost all levels there is a ton of noise in the signal. For kicks, I experimented with other ways to use this. At best, I could get a decent sound by plugging the guitar into my amp, which is then connected to an attenuator and using the line level out on the attenuator over an XLR cable, and then converted that to RCA, but ONLY when connecting the RCA to a mono to stereo splitter and connecting BOTH RCAs into the device. And with that, I had to turn the level out all the way up on the attenuator and level in on the iRig all the way up. Still, the volume was probably 33% of what would sound well (without turning the amp up or turning levels up on pedals, etc, which did not sound good), and I could not get a good tone no matter what I did.Next, I plugged the XLR directly into the MIC/INST input; predictably that does not sound good.Lastly, I got the iRig Mic, hoping I to use that as a microphone in addition to the guitar input; and although the Mic does not sound bad (plugging in to the Headset input), again there is a ton of noise like when plugging a guitar into the MIC/INST input, which makes it totally unusable. One more thing, I did experiment with playing devices (i.e. a minidisc player of all things) into the RCA inputs and .. it works. Doesn't sound the greatest, but it probably sounded the best of anything else I described above with little noise. Maybe I should record playing guitar onto minidisc and then just play that back with this iRig thing?I emailed their customer support 3 days ago, I have not heard back.I really have no idea how anyone is getting a good sound with this thing...

Using it to record church services for streaming. Had a bit of trouble getting it setup, but it works well enough after working out the bugs.Audio level - Just adjust your audio level carefully, as it will distort with a hot signal.Monitoring - works well with headphones.Charging - It will charge some devices, but not my iPad Air. It does with iPhone 6 and 10. It works with a 5v tip positive wall wart, even tho there is no documentation of the power specs anywhere. I thought the IK Media powersupply was grossly expensive, if available.Documentation - is minimal,.at best. Look for YouTube videos.Signal input - I'm feeding it with a balanced signal from a Behringer X32 fed thru a reversed DI box. I wanted the line-level version rather than the XLR balancrd version for 2x the $$ for more flexibility at church and to save a few $ in case it did not work. In retrospect, I probably should have bought the XLR version.Software - it works well with the in-service default camera app. Did not download the default app, as the reviews were terrible.Mounting - need to glue a Velcro strip on the Stream to hang it on the camera stand. Otherwise, it hangs from the Lightning connector.Other Platforms - have not yet tested with my Android phone or a PC, but expect it to work well.Summary - I would buy it again, but would choose the balanced version. I will keep the line level version at church for portability and flexibility1/6/21 update - after using for many months for Church streaming recording, I think this is a great device. I added a power supply from my junk box - had to search to find one that fits, as no power specs published. I also use a pair of DI boxes REVERSED to convert it to a balanced input. My DI has a 10dB pad, which cuts level and reduces hiss.3 issues remain:1) be careful with the cable. It will partially unplug from the device if you let the device hang from it. Result is drop out for recordings.2) level is crucial, as it will clip if you over drive it. A RED light is bad news. My level knob is set at about1o’clock. I use a tube-based leveling amp (compressor) with it PLUS the channel and main send compressor from my X32 mixer. 3) it was incompatible with an iPhone 12 until an iOS update. Afterwards, seems to work fine.My results are available on YouTube - Hixson UMC. See especially the12/20/20 service.
