These appear to be the same good quality as the Hurricane HSS, 3 Piece Bowl Gouge Set (1/4", 3/8" and 1/2" Flute), Standard Series Woodturning Tools set that I already had. Take this as an observation more than a critique, but this set is considerably smaller/shorter than the 3 piece gouge set (which I really like). The actual dimensions of that set are hard to find so an A-B comparison is difficult. Just be aware of that before you dive in.

I am just getting back into wood turning after not doing it for many years. I tried it in my high school shop class and just never could justify the cost and the space in my garage for a wood working lathe. Well black Friday rolled around I ordered a "midi" lathe from JET. I spent most of the weekend building a mobile cart for it and finally got to use it last night. I only used a few of these chisels and there are a few I have not heard of so I will need to watch some You Tube videos to get familiar with what each chisel is meant for. As you can tell I am not a skilled wood turner, so I can only review this product based on very limited experience.First of all, the presentation is really nice. It comes with a decent wooden case with individual slots for each chisel. I was surprised that they did not have protective tip covers like my wood chisels have. They are each in their own baggie which quite frankly will not protect them from anything. The handle is lightly finished with a good feel and balance. A little on the rough side, but not bad. The handles are all the same length and profile with the name brand on them. The blades all seem sharp right out of the box, and I was able to use them without the need to sharpen them. They are HSS and will require sharpening at some point. I am making wheels for toy cars and trucks out of maple, so I have only used the roughing chisel, the smaller skew chisel and the parting tool so far. It was a lot of fun, and I can't wait to learn more skills and make other things. I have some old files that I inherited from my grandfather that are missing the handles, so that will be a project for the future. right now, I have to get back to my Christmas gifts. In my opinion this is a great starter kit for someone wanting to get into the basic skills of wood turning. I am sure that once you get going and figure out that wood turning is for you, you will want to acquire more professional made tools or get carbide replaceable tools, so you do not need to sharpen your chisels edges. But for me I am happy with these chisels and feel they are at a reasonable price.....
