Product Description

These filters offer both amateur and professional photographers HOYA's famous quality at reasonable prices. They have coatings applied to both surfaces to suppress reflection and increase light transmission. The HOYA HRT circular polarizer filter uses a newly developed High-Rate Transparency film that passes more visible light through the filter while still filtering the same amount of polarized light, this means it can transmit as much as 25% more light through the polarizing film giving the photographer about 1/3 stop more light than a standard circular polarizer. This new polarizing film is also used in the latest HD LCD TVs. The glass of the HOYA HRT filter also has UV absorbing properties making the HRT a combination UV & Circular Polarizing filter. The most common use for a circular polarizer filter is to darken bright blue skies in outdoor photography, but they can also reduce or eliminate reflections from non-metallic surfaces such as glass and water. By rotating the outer ring of the filter the change of effect can be seen by looking though the filter or through the viewfinder if it is mounted on a camera. HOYA is the world's largest optical glass manufacturer, producing glass to specification for almost every camera and lens manufacturer. HOYA is also the world's largest optical filter manufacturer.

This Hoya HRT CPL works fine and does the job it was designed for. On testing this filter against a Hoya HMC CPL it consistently gave a third f stop more light passing through the filter with the same amount of polarising effect. I can’t really measure the UV effect but I’m sure that Hoya has been able to build this helpful effect into this filter..

100% worth the price! I would never use a cheaper polarizer again. Removes all of the unwanted reflections.

Smooth operation, good optics, well-built. The HRT tech allows good light transmission without compromising the polarization, and it's half the price and most of the quality of a B+W filter (the gold standard). No regrets!

I'm not a professional photographer, but am learning. I can't believe the difference this filter makes! I just had a clear filter on to protect my lens. When I got this, I took a couple pics without the filter, then I put the filter on, wow!! What a difference! The first pictures I took, it was a very hot day, my pictures looked like it had a hazy look to it, like foggy, then I put on the polarized filter and wow! It's like it took all the haze away and everything was so crisp and just amazing!! I've left this lens on even when taking pictures inside, I've had no problems with auto focus. I've heard peopke say it has a mark on the outer lens, I see it, is the mark suppose to be on the top? I don't notice much when I turn it, just a little less glare. I have a canon SX50HS and I have an adaptor on, so I didn't need an adaptor and the 58mm fit perfect!! I had asked a lot of questions before buying this and want to say thank you all for helping me with questions and making the right choice, cause there were others I was looking at, this filter is great!! I would recommend this to anyone! From people who just starting in photography, or just takes pictures for fun or the advanced photographers! :) in the pictures I put, the lens in the package is my old clear filter, im just showing for the box. But if anyone wants to see the actual filter let me know, I had already put it on.

I took this lens on a recent cruise mounted on a Canon lens and DSLR and could see a significant improvement in the saturation and colors of my pictures versus clear glass. The ability to rotate the filter significantly adds to its utility. The increased light transmission is a benefit as well; I found I was able to leave it on indoors for all but the darkest environments without using a flash. Previous polarizing filters I've had were much darker to the point of being unusable indoors.

I have a lot of experience with polarizing filters spanning nearly 40 years. This filter is quite expensive compared to some others but it is of the best quality in every respect. It has produced the highest quality pictures I have taken to date. There are no flaws or deviations in the coating that can be detected at level that I have been able to reach. The fit of the threads to the lens was perfect. The filter rotates through all 360° smoothly with no tight spots. I will buy more of these for my other cameras.

The filter itself takes fantastic photos, and it does a good job of not blocking too much light. However, because the filter is so thin it gets stuck on my lens almost every time I use it. I use it with a Nikkor 50mm 1.4G. No easy way to get it off, just a lot of patients , and the exact right amount of pressure/torque (sometime going into an environment with different temperature/humidity helps - i.e. the bathroom with the shower running on hot). This is horribly frustrating given that a polarizer is something I hope to quickly throw on should the scene necessitate one, and remove so I can take normal photos again. In the future, I will go for the full-sized (thickness) ones in hopes of mitigating this problem.

I bought this filter for a trip to Italy and boy was the difference in photo quality night and day! Suddenly, the colors of the sky and trees were brought out and I was able to shoot through glass and water with minimal glare. A CPL is an absolute must have, and this does the job just as well as most others. For context, I shot with the 18-55mm kit lens on a Canon T2i.My only complaint is that one time the filter slipped off its threads and fell onto hard pavement from chest level, but it was likely my fault having not securely tightened it. The filter was not damaged beyond a small nick in the black paint. The build quality is very good.

I put this on a video camera for recording in a garden on a sunny day. I had visited the garden before at the same time of day and found that leaves in the background were going to be sending glare towards the camera. It would have produced dull greenery and maybe some spots of overexposure. This polarizer cut the glare nicely without creating haze in the shadows or increasing sensor noise. It's visibly clearer and lighter than inexpensive polarizers. It's even thin enough that a clip-on hood still fit the camera.

I bought a 58mm and a 62mm. Quality of manufacture is very good. It really does allow more light through to the sensor. However, the polarizing effect is pretty close to impossible to detect. Glare off glass / plastic / water seems unchanged, but there is a slight color shift (blue/orange) as the filter is rotated. Not recommended.

Saved a bundle compared to the camera shops in downtown SF. The correct filter shipped on time with no issues. See other reviews below mine which discuss this filter versus B+W and other brands. I read many helpful pieces of advice there before ordering this product. In all, I am glad I have chosen Hoya. This is a great filter, which upon practice, yields better and better results.
