Got this for our kitchen. One of our favorite desserts is creme brulee. This little torch works great!Pros+ Size. The torch is just about the right size for kitchen work. Not too big so as to be bulky when working on delicate dishes. And not too small so that it can actually warm and caramelize dishes.+ Simple. The use for the torch is really easy. Just fill it with butane and click the button to turn it on. Then adjust the flame with the adjustment knob. You can always push the ignition button again to get a burst of flame.+ Construction. The torch is well made and feels solid. The ignition switch is not wiggly. The adjustment screw is not loose. Everything feels tight.Cons+ The base for the torch doesn't allow it to sit perfectly inside the base. So you either have to shove it in there to be tight or just make sure to take it out of the base while using the flame.

Sometimes you need a powerful flame to melt, burn or scorch items. What comes in the box is a torch, a plastic base, a set of instructions and a safety clip.I filled this with lighter butane and turned the valve to activate flow of gas for the torch. Once the flow of gas is turned on and the flame is sparked a tight blue flame is emitted that is about 3-4" long. It is powerful and comes to a tight point. Releasing the sparking button lowers the gas flow and it becomes a more relaxed flame. But to turn off the flame the gas valve has to be closed all the way. It would be nice to have a safety mechanism that closes off the gas flow once the button is released. So you need to be aware of this and diligently turn off the gas when using. It comes with plastic base, which fits but only partially. Its debatable whether the torch stands on its own better with or without the base as the base falls off pretty readily on the one I have.So if you are a metal worker looking for a portable torch to do some minor touch up work or someone used to turning off the gas to their torch to cut off the flame, this may be a good torch for you. But if you are a cook who is used to torches that turn themselves off, this might be a potential safety concern as in the frenetic action of a kitchen during meal prep, one could easily forget to turn off the gas valve and start a fire or injure themselves or others. So it is important to not throw out the safety clip as it will prevent accidental sparking of the torch. So in brief this got 4 instead of 5 stars because of the absence of a gas flow terminator. Aside from this safety detail it is a highly functional torch but with a flimsy base.

This gas torch has two modes, one you can set to any point and the other gives a full flame when you press the trigger. Pressing the trigger fully initiates a spark and lights the flame. There is a knob to release the gas and a plastic clip to prevent turning the knob or pressing the trigger. It worked well so long as the clip was pushed in fully. I wish they would make it a permanent fixture, like a safety on a firearm, but this works and is easy to use. Not everyone will want to use it anyway. The flame can be adjusted from a low to reasonably high. On high you can hear the sound quite well and the flame is well formed. The unit is well made. I have the brass body version and it is well balanced and feels substantial. The gas capacity is quite large. The handle is pretty much the gas tank. Others I have used had far less capacity and were inferior in quality and construction. This is a well made and designed unit. Looks great too.It will be a welcome addition to the kitchen. I cannot fault it and the price is good for what you are getting.

This torch has a lot of power the jet of blue flame is about 1.5 inches. The jet of cooler blue flame is out 4 to 5 inches. That is power. How this works is there is a knob on the left side where you open the valve and press the igniter with your thumb. I'm use to using a push button instant on torch, and when you let go it turns off.. however this acts more like a propane torch where you have to turn on the gas first and then ignite it with a starter, and it stays on. I feel like I'm wasting gas if I don't hit the starter quickly. I just find it annoying. However this might be a feature someone wants if they need the flame constantly on while doing something with 2 hands... I just find that as risky. The other thing is the knob that controls the gas coming out.. it doesn't really control the flame power.. Once you rotate it past 5mm, it blazes out full power. I removed one star for this.Overall the torch feels solid. It ignites every time. the flame is pretty awesome but the gas control through the valve needs improvement.

This kitchen torch has weight. It feels heavy in hand, which I think is a huge plus. The solid construction helps me to mentally acknowledge that I have a dangerous tool in hand. The pistol grip design allows for precise control of the flame. The flame is adjustable, and able to go from bic lighter flame, to full on blue flame blowtorch. It comes with a safety plug, that keeps it from leaking gas or starting when it's in your kitchen drawer. It does ship without fuel, so you will need to get your own butane to get it going, but I imagine that is a common issue with all torches, since shipping flammable gas is dangerous. So far this has been a great addition to my kitchen, allowing for easy charing of veggies, or spices.
