Hoe Garden Tool

This hoe seems to be very sturdy and breaks up the ground easily with little effort. It can be sharpened if you feel it's needed but it seems plenty sharp enough for most uses. The metal tube pieces that make up the handle, screw together and it actually held together well when I tried it in the yard. I like that I can take it apart and use as a hand tool if I like or shorten it at any time for a comfortable gardening experience. I am only 5'2" and shrinking fast, so I can fit it for my height.I like that the dirt didn't stick to it which can get very irritating when your gardening. It was easy to put together with no problems at all.I'll get a lot of use out of this hoe.A new take on the old hoes I used to use.

I got this hoe because I was tired of all of these short handled hoes that are being sold these days. They all have the same short length handle and they are all too short for anyone over 5 foot tall to use without the need to work hunched over, hurting your back. That's the one thing that I wasn't disappointed about with this hoe, it does have as long of a handle as anyone could possibly need, outside of a professional basketball player maybe, but I was disappointed with the overall quality of the tool.First of all, just like it says in the description, this hoe comes unsharpened, and that's OK, because anyone who uses a hoe for very long had better have the means, and know-how, to sharpen it anyway. The only thing is that, while sharpening it, I noticed that the metal wasn't as good of quality as I would have liked, and I don't think it will hold an edge as well as I would have liked, but time will tell. The other thing I didn't like is that the handle screws together in sections, and in a tool that will see such hard use, this will almost certainly lead to premature failure.I really like the long handle, but I have serious reservations about the overall quality of the rest of the tool. The head is not welded, the metal is cheap quality, and the handle only screws together, so I can't foresee this tool lasting for many years, but I guess I will just have to be content to use it till it breaks.

This was for the 85-inch hoe. After assembly, it was indeed approximately 85 inches long (how do you measure a curving end of the pole?). I got the long one thinking I can shorten it to meet my needs, and given how it is put together, I will be able to do that. The tubular metal handle pieces are about 1 inch in diameter. They seem sturdy and hard. I would not use them for beating on hard surfaces, but for ordinary hoeing work, they should do the job. They screw together end to end, and the overlap from one to the next is 2 1/4 inches, which I suspect will hold up well. There is a notch in the top end of the handle for hanging it up--if you have ceilings that tall! The hoe head is 9 1/4 inches wide, point to point, which is bigger than the product page shows. The angle from the handle to the outer tips of the blade are 5 inches, also larger. There is a bevel on the blade which can be used as a guide to sharpening it. I am not convinced it needs sharpening out of the box.It appears to be well balanced and should work well. It is relatively heavy.Putting it together was a bit fiddly, having to hold the handle, the blade, the bolt, and the locking nut all at once, twisting them. Then repeat with the lowest handle part (they did mark that piece with a zip tie so one can find it easily). The wrench included was good quality. It might have been marginally easier if I had used a bench vise. (A minor gripe: I dislike it when the final workstation on the assembly line is in the customer's home. But I understand the issue of shipping such a tool were it assembled.)All in all a tool I will probably get much use out of.

Looking forward to using my new garden hoe. First off, assembly required, ugh. Hoe arrives in one box with 5 pcs + hardware kit as well ans one set of extra hardware. (Had to sweet talk hubs into assembling for me.)The hoe is very substantial in weight and size. Not sure how many folks have the ability to sharpen the blade themselves. Unfortunately I decided to deduct one star for an unsharpened blade and self assemble, which I did not see in the ad.I plan to use this tool for churning mulch around the yard multiple times per year. Well made and well priced. Buyer beware you will need to build this and sharpen yourself.

This is a surprisingly strong and sturdy, long-handled hoe. My husband was looking for something longer to work in the garden after his recent knee surgery and he says this is perfect for his needs. It is well made, even with the adjustable handle that needs to be screwed together. I was concerned that a non-solid handle would be less strong, but he says if it should come loose it is easy to tighten, and he feels this is a very heavy-duty, sturdy and durable hoe. The hoe was easy to assemble and even without sharpening it, it is sharp enough to garden with.

As it was noted in the Amazon listing, this does not come already sharpened so you will probably want to sharpen with a grinder or file to get the best cutting of weeds. I used a bench grinder as shown in the photo and it sharpened easily since the edge was already pre-beveled. Assembly is also easy with lock nuts and a wrench included in the package. The handle comes in sections that can be screwed together to various lengths. I ordered the longest, with an 85 inch handle, but found I did not need it to be that long so I left out two sections. I really like the flexibility and it is easy to add or reduce the number of sections to get the perfect length for whatever job you are doing with it.
