The silk bass clarinet swabs are made with a large plastic coated lead weight allowing the swab to drop through the instrument without hanging up in the large key holes. It is capable of cleaning the entire instrument. Because of the bass clarinet"s length, the swab is designed to clean the neck separately.

I have a LeBlanc contrabass and have been trying to find a good swab on that large instrument. I use a BG on my bass clarinet which does an excellent job but I was concerned that it would be too tight to fit around the bend at the top of my contra. I altered this swab by adding a length of cord between the swab and weight. It now does a good job on my contra.

Typically effective and awesome swab. I like the silk swabs better than cotton cloth or other fabric because it really absorbs moisture quickly.The only downside is the silk may be a tiny bit more prone to snagging on any internal vent pips or imperfections inside an instrument. But if you're careful and make sure the swab isn't twisted or wadded that shouldn't be an issue.

This is a beautiful item. The weight is not sewn into the line so falls through the instrument without catching anywhere. The cloth is very absorbent yet it dries very quickly. Couldn’t be better except as I am ordering a second one it would be nice to have a different colour.

The Hodge Silk Swab I bought for my bass clarinet in red ten years agao is still in great shape after daily use for 10 years and many hand washings. I just bought a new purple swab ... well because I wanted a change of color. The swab is wide enough and absorbent enough to clean out a bass clarinet with two passes through. The cording and the weight are quite long and durable - I have to remove the bell and the neck and clean them separately.I also tried the Hodge Bari Sax Swab for my Bass Clarinet neck piece, just because I also own a Bari Sax. It works great!In summary: Durable, Efficient, Cost-Effective, Lots of Colours, Prevents Stinkiness, Easy & Fast to Use.

Swabs my rosewood Selmer Contra Alto quite nicely. Not sure if the string is long enough for a one piece body, but it does my two parts just fine. Weighted end drops quickly and easily straight through. The ample piece of material of the swab fills the large bore of the contra. Two passes is about all it needs.
