This kit put my 35yr. old stihl saw back to working order, all but brand new. Saw runs great for being that old.

I was pleasantly surprised at how well this kit worked! My chainsaw ran way better once I replaced the items in the kit!

Seems to be at least as good as the original. I used it on a STIHL MS310. The wire is a little long (maybe an inch or slightly more) for the MS310 but the spark plug wire is so durably connected (better than OEM by far) that you probably won't want to remove it. If you want to shorten the wire, I would cut it off and use that existing connector and the new spark plug boot. Maybe you can unbend the new one remove the new (installed) one. But they wrapped it in there pretty good. The spark seems stronger than the old one ever was. When I pull the cord slowly, I never got a kickback before. Now, if I don't pull the cord smartly, it will kickback and stop spinning. I don't consider this a defect, when you pull, you just don't pull half heartedly. Boy, the saw cuts like crazy now and the engine just screams when you pull the trigger even though I tend to keep my mixture a little rich to keep my saws running cooler. If you are wondering "will this be as good as factory?" The answer is yes. It even has the protective sleeve for the wire, which the factory one did not have. I took it off though maybe I.could have left it on for more insulation of the wire. If the wire was the perfect length, I would give it 6 stars because it does seems to work better than the factory. I agree with the thousand other people that bought this.

Lost of issues with this to be honest. You need to know how to wire to make changes so it stuffs in a saw. The spark plug wire was inches to long and the coil in the head spins because of it. The wires they provide aren't everything you need on a 290 farm boss to reassemble. Kinda disappointed..

Coil installed, and proper gap set between coil and magnet on fly wheel. Initial test for spark good. Put saw together for test run instantly started and ran great for about 1 min. Then immediately failed. retest of coil shows no spark. Disconnected kill switch to insure no short, still no spark. Don't buy, quality is bad wasted a couple hours installing and testing, and retesting just to realize it was cheap junk.

My saw had a double armature electronic coil. I talked to a Stihl repair shop for the replacement part for my saw and it was replaced with a single armature like this one. My coil tested within spec, but I could not get spark. Installed this one and it started on about the third pull. Been using for several weeks and no problems. Few minor things: Spark plug wire was about an inch too long which was easily shorten. The oblong slot needed a little extending to get the correct gap on the flywheel which I used a drill bit to ream. The main hole, which is oversize for the screw, needed a bigger and thicker washer because it would always try to center itself in the hole; throwing off the flywheel gap.

Since this fits so many models it needed to be fit to the model I installed it on. Plug wire was to long. easy enough to adjust for the model. Just lube the cable and boot with a little silicone or WD and slide the boot TOWARDS the coil, use a small needle nose to grab the plug terminal and slide the boot. The terminal end is a self piercing spring wire that is reused. The kill switch and ground wire I never used as mine were just fine. Great product for the money.
