These hanger bolts are headless bolts designed to hang materials from wooden structures, walls or overhead. One half has a lag thread wood screw with a pointed tip and the other half has standard machine thread with a blunt tip. Commonly used to hang wiring and ceiling hooks, the assembly is complete when the lag end is screwed into a pre-drilled hole.

This 5 1/2" hanger bolt was exactly what I needed to attach one end of a new stair handrail to the newel post (see the pic, where you can't see the bolt 'cause it's inside the plastic spacer :-) ). You'll need a special driver to turn it, because there's no place to put a screwdriver or a wrench, but as you can see, I wouldn't have been able to get to one if there was.I ordered a pack of 10, which was more than I needed. But I would have ordered a single one if I could, and it turns out I destroyed the first one's threads removing it after forgetting to widen the hole for the cap nut. So I was really glad I had at least two :-)

These 5.5 inch hanger bolts were perfect for my project. In case you want to know length details: lag section is 3 inches, smooth section is 1 inch and machine threaded section is 1.5 inches. Recommend getting Ivy Classic hanger bolt driver 44690 for 5/16” - 18 hanger bolts to install with impact driver.

I purchased two boxes and one box was a little different than the other, the shank wasn't threaded all the way on one box. Other than that they was exactly what I wanted.
