Once thing I changed was the philips head screw. I changed this to a thumb screw. The mechanism needs to be loose to allow you to fine adjust the indicator. Once you have it close, tighten the thumb screw and turn the face of the indicator to Zero it out. Couldn't be easier.

mating parts so loose that you can't use the way it is. Had to plug holes (they were .050 inch bigger than the pins that went through them) then drill and ream the holes to .001 inch bigger than the pins just to be able to use it. I don't recommend this product unless you want to refurbish like I did. very poorly made
