Yes, it looks a little scary when you first take it out of the packaging. A medieval torture device? BUT the design worked, and in seconds the ring that had been stuck on my swollen finger for a month was finally removed. My son turned the knob while I held the ring and grip in place. I had him stop just as the score was made and deep enough, to use needle nose pliers to gently separate the two sides of the gold ring band. RELIEF. This device will go into our home medical emergency kit. Who knew that joints can swell, and rings that have always fit comfortably, suddenly cannot be removed ( after trying ice, oil, lotions, holding arm upright, string, saran wrap, dental floss wrap...etc.) Isn't aging fun.

This tool worked as advertised, but I suggest a slip of paper that gives the user some tips on using less and more pressure on cutting wheel, positioning the device, etc. These are all things that a user can figure out, but 2 inch square piece of paper with some tips would be helpful. This is not the least expensive model on Amazon, and not the most expensive. I would not want anything lower than this in terms of cutting strength. It took daughter and me about ten minutes. Kudos to those who do the ring trick in less. But I am very glad to have this tool.
