Needed something to keep my trench drain in the driveway from freezing and causing water to pond up, and this cable is working very nicely for this. They only get warm to the touch but that's enough to keep ice from forming; issues from occurring. They're a little rigid but only out of the box, but this is likely better for durability. Excellent value for the cost and easy to use, wish I had purchased them sooner.

This heat tape for plumbing is very good. It speaks of quality from the time you open the package. It should be fine and will be fine for my PVC pipes. Having water issues in the winter is no fun, so I tested it on a PVC pipe and it was fine. However, I would recommend getting pool noodles, slit them open, and put them over the pipes prior to putting the heat tape on. You can adjust the heat, which is self-regulating. This takes the worry out of those occasionally very cold days, that your pipes are safe. What makes this different is that it is 120 feet long.

First off this is nicely packaged in a retail style box with easy to read features.Initially I wanted this for a project I'm considering using rooftop copper pipe for heating water. I've been toying around with this idea for the past 16 years or so. On a jobsite we had three campers with the water supplied via 500 feet of water hose. One summer day after work the guys in the other campers headed straight home when they were normally the first to shower. I fell victim to the extremely hot water from the hose when it made its way into my shower. It made the water from the water heater seem lukewarm.Anyway, I knew I would need something to prevent freezing in winter whether it was to drain it or heat it. This would work great and sunny days would still heat the pipe. Then I decided this was the perfect length for the water pipes around my shop. They are fed from a hydrant in the yard by a simple garden hose and run around the perimeter of the normally open walls. I normally drain and blow them out but with this cable I shouldn't have to worry about that anymore and I'll still have water when I need it.The cable is super duty. The rating on the cable matches the rating in the instruction manual. Yes, "manual" because the booklet that comes with it is very thorough in installation procedures as well as specifications.Obviously I haven't tested but have no doubt it will protect my pipes. Should I find out otherwise this Winter I'll update.Great product. Great value.

We haven't had any freezing nights yet so I can't say much about real world performance, but I've used a lot of different cables over the years and none of them were anywhere close to this in terms of quality. The insulation is super tough yet remains flexible enough to curve around where you need it to, the wiring is thick and the plugs are on there nice and solid. I plugged it in and it heats up quickly and I didn't feel any dead spots anywhere on the cable. Also, one indicator something like this is a legit, quality product and knock a cheap junk knockoff is always the documentation. Cheap products never have any documentation listing certs and detailed info, and at best have some poorly translated photocopy of questionable instructions. The documentation included with this is extensive and professional, and it just completes the impression this product gives that it's a serious, commercial quality product that will work and last. I'm very impressed with it and highly recommend it.

Prepping for winter on the coast of Lake Erie, our roof would build up large ice clusters that could become dangerous. This solved that entirely. Installation took a few hours, as the roof is large, but it was rather easy.

A perfectly fine heat cable.I got the 120 foot one, and it seems great. I tested it out and it works well. The only bad part is the super long one can use a lot of power.A lot of these also have a high temp for turning on. So I like to hook them up to a thermo cube. One that turns it on when it gets to 35 and off at 45. A lot of these cables will come on until they are 80 on higher. These can be super useful.

My DIY conclusion is that this heating cable is a substantially made product and is intended for long term installation. I came to that opinion because of reading the extensive details on how this cable should be installed. That includes bonding it to the pipe with certain types of straps at regular intervals, covering it with a shell of insulating foam, and so on. Also on a practical sense it was stiff to spiral wrap around even a 1-1/4" pipe as a trial. The black flattened heating section of the cable is much stiffer than the orange power cord and plug section which behaves like a work shop extension cord. The special heating cable is not like the flat white jacketed 3 conductor house wiring run through studs and so on. There are many applications depending on your particular project where it can be run straight in line with the pipe so you have a "foot of cable for each foot of pipe" solution. On the other hand you might have a job that calls for a cable to pipe length of 1.5, etc. just as an example. This seems to be a new model of heating cable from the manufacturer so I couldn't find a specific technical section for 'HEATIT 8PLSR' on the website but the rest of the existing product line is covered on the website with technical and installation specifications. I anticipate that this cable will have comparable information available in the future or for now judge by the other types offered. For pre-purchase the existing information online can be a guide to prospective buyers as to what length of cable is suitable for your specific needs. That includes a grid table to choose if your pipe is plastic or metal, pipe diameter, expected lowest ambient temperatures, etc.All of the above raises the confidence factor for this product.
