This item is supposed to be water proof, however as soon as it gets wet it trips the GFCI outlet.

Ended up returning because needed for a specific purpose but realized there wasn't enough exposed pipe so couldn't use it, but I bought because I had several people recommend.

I have approximately an 8-10 foot area on a back bedroom roof that ices up easily. I put the end of this cord down the gutter downspout about a foot, then routed the cord inside the gutter that runs the length of the roof line that ices up. I had to use an extension cord to plug it into. I didn't tape the heated cord it down, just used up the entire cord winding inside the length of the gutter. It works perfect, very happy with the result.

did not quite finish wrapping around/taping to pipes; came back next morning when temperature was down; found the heat tape working; it comes on at few degrees higher than freezing; the wire heating made it easier , more pliable to wrap
