Back in the day, I sold and modified laboratory and surgical microscopes. I could not wait to try out this set of dentist type loupes. For the most part, they did not disappoint. The set came nicely packaged. The ad was somewhat misleading. The basic loupes were 3.5x magnification with a nice working distance of 420 mm. My guess is that they come in either 2.5x or 3.5x, and I did not see any method to convert between them. The apparatus to mount the loupes to the operator’s head was adjustable and quite comfortable once you got used to it. Setting pupillary distance was easy and quite intuitive. The instructions were rather cavalier regarding loupe rotation setting. Obtaining collimating binocular images is not easy and I hoped the base setting were correct. They were not—by a lot. Fortunately the y axis was fixed so it did not take me too long to get a suitable image (not correct yet, but close enough for an evaluation). Your results may vary. The ad stated that the main optics were made of plastic. I doubt it. Excellent resolution (looking at paper money and postage stamps) was very good. The dual light sources provided excellent illumination. I have no need for the blood filters and did not try them. The main loupes were easy to get on and off the frame. The auxillary 1.5x plastic lens mounting system was left to the interns and I could not find a simple means of getting it off (no help from the instructions either). I worked a small blade screwdriver into the internals and managed to remove it. Working distance is quite reduced when using using the auxillary and I noticed a reflection with my left eye. I am not going to use the auxillary. Two battery packs were provided. The packaging appears to be proprietary and replacements may be difficult to obtain.I like the optics, the illumination, and the support frame. The lack of adequate factory collimating is a negative, as is the securing of the auxillary lens. I would like to see a standard battery pack.
