Works perfectly, needed a way to be able to link a hi-fi amplifier to a Samsung frame box through an e-arc HDMI and go to analog out to amp while still being able to use the TV remote to adjust volume - it works.

Works great at taking the audio signal out of my tv e-arc. Quality of sound is good. Only complaint is the volume control is very slow in going up and down. Each press is like 4% of 100%. Best option I've used yet.

There is no remote volume control when using the optical input. There is with the HDMI ARC input. When on, the converter controls the TV sound output so you can't use just the TV speaker. If you want to use the TV speaker for output you have to shut the converter off.

This digital to analog converter will convert a digital signal from either the HDMI/ARC (Audio Return Channel) of a TV or from a digital optical port to either headphone output or to a pair of stereo RCA outputs. I, recently, got an Insignia Fire TV from Best Buy and while it has a headphone jack (3.5mm), that jack is located on the back of the TV. When headphones are attached to the TV, the speakers to the TV are muted. That’s OK when there’s someone there, who I’m trying NOT to disturb, but the constant plugging and unplugging of the headphones, due to the location of the headphone jack, is not an easy task. By being able to plug this device into the back of the TV’s ARC port, with a short HDMI cable, I’m able to provide a front-facing, easily accessible headphone jack. In addition to that, although having an HDMI cable in the ARC port disables the TV’s speakers, this little DAC (digital audio converter) has an on/off switch and an on/off switch, also for the ARC in port. When the device is turned off or the ARC port is turned off, the device disengages its control of the ARC port and allows the TV speakers to be re-engaged. Therefore, there’s no need to disconnect this device in order to turn your TV’s speakers back on - just turn it off and the device will relinquish control of the TV’s ARC port, allowing the TV to, once again, use its internal speakers. This device, certainly, makes it a lot easier to switch back and forth between headphones and the TV’s own internal speakers and does so without having to put unnecessary wear and tear on the TV’s headphone jack or your headphones’ plug.I don’t use the optical out on the TV because the optical out doesn’t respond to volume changes from the remote control but I tried it with this device and it does work. While I don’t have a soundbar attached to my TV, this device also includes a “through” port for the ARC in, so that while this device could be used to provide a headphone jack, a soundbar could be, additionally, added to your TV to give your TV the ability to (theoretically) have control of the headphones and speakers through the TV’s remote control.I would give this device 5 stars but I had to return the first one and get a 2nd one sent to me. It can be a little tricky to set up. If your television’s settings aren’t set, correctly, particularly as it relates to using external equipment with the ARC port, then this thing will not do what you expect that it should. It comes with a little bi-fold user’s manual, but the print is very tiny and the instructions for using it are somewhat vague. Because of that, it’s more of a try, try, try until you figure it out kind of device. However, when you do get it working, it works very well.I tried it with both an Insignia Fire TV and a Sony XBR series TV. While I was able to get this device to work with the both the Insignia Fire TV and the Sony, the setup was much simpler and self-explanatory on the Sony than it was on the Insignia Fire TV. There are three or four TV settings that, if they’re not set up correctly, will prevent this device from operating correctly. The complicating factor is that while some aspects of TV set up are given one name on one brand of TV, the same aspects of setting the TV up are given different names on a different brand of TV. It helps to tread, carefully, and use as much common sense as you have in setting one of these up.I would’ve given this device 5 stars if the first one sent to me had operated, properly, and if getting it to work had been simpler. However, if the only TV that I had connected it to would have been the Sony, my review might, also, have been a little more generous.A decent little device but be prepared to make changes to your TV’s audio output and ARC settings.

If you need to connect your TV to an old-fashioned hi-fi setting, look no further. Plug and play, connect to the TV, set it up and enable it. You'll get clean sound and be able to control the volume with the TV remote.
