This pump/filter unit replaces the Intex 26679EG we bought 2 months ago, which worked "well enough" for 6 weeks before it died. The 1.5hp motor in this unit is over 2x more powerful than the one it replaces, and the sand filter is larger too. The hoses, clamps, and threaded fittings that Hayward supplies all seem to be really high-quality parts. I appreciate that Hayward sent a small roll of teflon thread tape, since they recommend using it during installation.Assembling this item was easy. And once I found the silicone-PTFE lube/grease Hayward specifies for their seals & o-rings, and located some miscellaneous parts I needed to adapt the Hayward equipment to my current pool plumbing setup (1.25" hoses), installation went smoothly too.In actual use, the pump is more powerful than I really need for my pool. The upside of that is the pump doesn't need to run as long to filter the entire pool contents, or handle high swimmer loads etc. I can also vacuum my pool *a lot* faster and better now. There's no more need to make multiple passes, or difficulty getting larger debris off the pool floor. In less than 24 hours, the sand filter has done a remarkable job of clearing our water after 2 weeks of "woefully inadequate" filtering by the small, cartridge filter that came with the pool, and almost no chlorination.I took one star off of my rating for this unit for 2 reasons:1. The pump arrived with the box and packaging all inperfect condition, but one corner of the pump's mounting bracket is bent badly enough that I can't use that mount-point. So apparently the bracket was damaged before the pump was packed for shipping. -- Strangely, the Hayward Aquatrol salt system I just received (which shipped separately, and also arrived in an undamaged box) has a similar "bent mount bracket corner" problem on the metal control unit cabinet. --2. The pump design allows you to easily unlock and move and the discharge port 90° so it discharges to the side if you follow a few steps. My pump seems to allow the port to move **without following those steps**, when very little force is applied. This has only prevented the pump from operating once (so far), but it is a bit worrisome, and not what I expected from a company with Hayward's reputation for quality.I'll follow-up with the seller on these points to see what they recommend as a remedy, and maybe I'll be performing yet another pump replacement soon.

We have a drastic improvement in the flow and clarity of the water. It was a little challenge assembling as there are no instructions for putting the pump, filter and hoses together as one unit.

I thought for sure my husband made a mistake because this filter wasn't nearly as big as the one we were replacing. But of course who am I to stand in the way of the decision making. Well..... much to my surprise, this filter is actually so much better than our original that came with the pool. We have an oval 15K Gallon pool, this filter turns it over multiple times a day, no problem. My electric bill has actually went down significantly, and my water was much easier to get clear. So. Maybe the husband was right. Color me impressed, I definitely recommend.

Very powerful quiet pump. Used 100# of sand. Directions say sand 10” fromThe top, 100# put it 11” fromThe top. Close enough. When I shocked the pool at start up the water turned orangy brown but clear, it was filtered out completely in less than 12 hours. Water from inlet is so powerful you can lean against it and it will hold you up. Easy set up. It’s on a 24’x52” pool. Like 14k gallons. Does great!

So I purchased this back in April to replace some old equipment that was existing when we bought the house. It's now been through a full year pool season, and its been awesome. This was an easy install, and my only advice is to make sure the lateral arms are ALL THE WAY DOWN prior to filling the filter with the correct sand (#20). This pump moves some serious water. I've got about a 13,500 gallon above ground and by calculations it will circulate the water almost 2 times in my ~12 hours of running per day. My pool all year has been sparkling and clean.

Very good unit. I went from a 1.5 hp Hayward to a 1.0 hp on a recommendation by a Pool guy. He said the power flow matrix pump was much better therefore I could drop to the 1.0hp. However, I had to keep my pool running longer to keep it clean. After a couple years, I decided to buy the whole unit going back to the 1.5 hp I started with. Pool looks great again. It moves much more water and can run it less. I have a 24 ft round and this may look overkill on paper, but works perfectly. It's able to turn the pool over quicker and that equals cleaner water. Also, I do not run mine 24-7 like some do. For those people a 1.0hp may work just fine. I'm on a timer for 8 hrs a day. It took the smaller unit 11 hrs to do the same job. The differences in electricity are only a few dollars a month. When my original motor burned out, I should have just replaced it with the same. I did not. Now I'm back to square 1. This filter pump combination works great. I have had many Hayward products and this one meets my expectations

I'm using two of these for two system large aquarium system. One has regular pool sand in it, the other have glass filter media. The construction of the system is great! If you get this, opt for getting zeosand or glass filter media! It really polish my tanks. I have some really big peacock bass and central American cichlids and they eat and poop all day long. The water remain completely clear with the glass filter media one.Pro:Way way cheaper in price than other pond filters. For the same price as an high end aquarium filter, you get something that work 20 times better!Con:The hose adapter that comes with the pump requires lots of Teflon tape and even then it still have a slow leak until the calcium builds up around it. This isn't a problem if you're using it outside or area where a little water doesn't hurt, but if you are using this inside on carpet or wood flooring, I would not user the hose the come with it and pump in PVC pipes.
