If you're into real Hawaiian style shave ice you might be disappointed. The ice comes out in fine to small chips. This of course is because it uses ice cubes instead of a larger piece of ice run over a bigger blade. It works great and you don't have to fill special ice trays which is the reason I bought it. I doubt that the kiddo's will mind.Update; the motor won't go anymore. I got a dead one on my hands. To late for a return so I have to chased down HSI CS to see what they will do. Bummer in the Summer...Updated: After call CS The HSI staff sent a new one out, pretty good service. The gave me the option of a full refund or a replacement, I like the machine so I opted to another unit. Now will see if the replacement lasts.

I absolutely love this. Bought for a gift for my kids! They love this. So easy to use and clean. Fun to use on hot summer days as a fun treat. Works really well. The ice comes out fast and sprays out a little, but not a big deal. Great purchase for the price. Definitely recommend buying this product.

I had my doubts when buying this little guy, I though for sure it would break after a small number of uses. I serve Hawaiian Ice to all of my guests, so it gets a lot of use. I was going to buy a commercial machine until I saw how much they want for one of them. So when my last one died after 2 months, I bought this one and have been very happy with it. I can say that after 6 months of almost daily use, it is still up and running and not having any issues...Just works every time I use it. One thing you have to remember is to check the machine to make sure you shaved all of the ice or remove any remaining ice or else it will melt, and the water will drip down onto the overflow area at the base of the machine and will overflow onto the counter if a large amount of ice is left to melt in the top of the machine -->This is solely a user issue and not the products fault at all.

a little noisy, but that is to be expected while shredding ice. works pretty quickly, just keep kids hands away since blade could still be accessed by where snow falls from on the bucket.

Great ice shave all around.Sometimes it makes a screeching noise when shaving.Biggest disappointment is the high fructose corn syrup in the flavour bottles.

I am pleased with the consistency of the ice shavings that this machine produces. However, there are a few areas in which I feel its design could be improved:1) The noise level. Once I start up the machine, it emits an almost shrieking sound. I have had ice shavers before that are quieter.2) The maximum 2-minute continuous running time. In 2 minutes, I can only shave about 13 average-sized ice cubes, or a packed pint of ice shavings, which is good for one person. If I need to serve more people, I have to rest the machine a few more minutes before starting another 2-minute round of shaving.3) Incomplete job. The first time I used this machine, I thought it had shaved every single cube I had placed in the canister. A few minutes later, I noticed water dripping heavily from the blade, and I realized one more cube had been left intact inside. After several more uses, I discovered a consistent pattern of one last ice cube never being shaved even after the machine stops making a grinding sound. I am unhappy that the 14-cube capacity of the canister is not maximized and instead produces only the equivalent of 13 cubes of shaved ice.In conclusion, this machine functions as it should and is relatively easy to assemble and clean. So far, I have had no mechanical problems with it. However, the shrieking sound leads me to believe that it may not be durable and it could break down any time.

We purchased our first one when the kids were young as a way to make snow cones and bring back memories our youth. It has served us well over the years and now that the kids are off in college, we bought them each one to take with them. Not only do they enjoy them as a treat, they love these when they are a bit under the weather. They will take the ice shavings and cover them with a bit of ginger ale. It really soothes a sore throat.As for the machine itself, yes, it is a bit noisy, but only while you are shaving the ice and that only lasts a minute or so. We useregular cubes from the automatic icemaker and they work fine. It is very easy to use, the kids did it all themselves.One word of advice, remember to put a little bowl under the slot after you are done shaving ice, because the unshaven ice left in the machine will melt and drip out.All in all, it is a great product that works well, is easy to use and is built to last. I hope it brings you as many great memories as it brought us.

My son has been obsessed with snow cones and slushies lately so I was looking into getting some sort of snow cone maker but didn't want to spend a lot. After some research and reading many reviews I decided to try the S700 Hawaiian Snow Cone Machine for just under $25 at Amazon and have been very happy with the purchase. We have had it for a few weeks and have made numerous snow cones, slushes and even adult frozen drinks, and all have turned out great with the shaved ice from this little machine. It uses regular ice cubes and we have had great results, the shaved ice is a nice light consistency and not overly chunky. I love that the machine is small and doesn't take up a lot of counter space, and will fit nicely back in the box for storage when the novelty wears off and it finally gets put a way for a while! I also like that you can turn it on and leave it while it shaves away, you don't have to stand there holding a button down. The only issue I have had is that you sometimes have to stop the machine and jostle it around a bit to get the ice cubes to shift into position to continue shaving, but it's not a big deal at all. If you are looking for an inexpensive ice shaver that uses plain old ice cubes then this is a great buy for the price!
