The Harmon name is well respected in the music world, but this mute is not very well made. Technically, you could use this as a cup mute, a straight mute, and a nice plunger mute. However, the cup does not come off easily, and is just held on with a friction fit. It's metal-on-metal, so taking it on and off is difficult and very loud, making it not really suitable for use during a performance. Finally, it is a weird size. It's too small for my large bore horn, but it doesn't really fit my pea-shooter, either. I added some cork to make it fit my large horn, but I don't understand what horn this was designed for.Overall, there are better cup mutes for less money.

After a few months, the mute cup (weld) glue gave out! Should soldered properly!

I bought it to fit into a Holton trombone. I did not fit. I'm pretty sure it was meant for a smaller model trombone but the description didn't specify.

It is a great idea, but I can't help but think that Harmon didn't try very hard with it. There are some significant flaws that could easily have been fixed; I would expect more from a great mute company like Harmon. I would only recommend it if you are on a budget. The straight mute works fine, and as far as I can tell it sounds fine, though I've only played trombone a few years and do not have a large amount of experience with mutes. The plunger mute sounds fine too, as long as you do not let it touch the bell while playing. Then it makes this awful metal-on-metal vibrating sound. I have no idea why they did not put some rubber along the edge. The worst part though is the combined cup mute. To make it, you just shove the straight and plunger mutes together and it feels like it won't hold together after a lot of use. But what is worse is that the plunger is too long when they fit together so the quark board on the straight mute does not hold inside the bell. You have too hold it yourself, and it is not an ideal situation. If they ever have a version 2.0, I would likely recommend it fullheartedly, but as it stands, only buy this if you cannot afford three separate.
