For the job it is made to do, this works very well and will solve your ice dam issue. It is however, somewhat pricey. This leaves the door wide open as I think it can be made for far less money. I have never used the slicer with plastic sheet as the rake works just fine. There are complaints here about heaviness and being hard to maneuver. On single story homes, I doubt that this is an issue. However for two story high roofs the extensions needed just to get the rake up on the roof, let alone to the peak, require some thought. Two people make it easier to pay the rake out so it clears the gutter or edge of the roof, add more extensions and then roll it up the roof from there. That’s what the wheels on the rake are for. Making the poles any beefier make for less flex but the weight issue, is compounded. Using lighter gauge, lighter weight tubes then you run the risk of permanently bending the poles, not merely flexing them. It is a slower methodical process for 2 story roofs, but still quite effective. I am buying an extra set of extensions as the one extension kit only allows me to clear off half the roof which may be enough to start rapid melting on a slate roof to prevent building up ice dams at the gutter level, maybe not. This roof has a northern exposure which only gets sun at the peak, if that. Before this snow rake I have had to replace a 20’ section of gutter twice due to ice dam weight and subsequent gutter bending and pull out.

…with the extra 8 feet I can reach nearly the peak of my roof. Very pleased.

Some peaks are just a little to high for the standard kit and getting these additional pole set completely makes it perfect.

I’m always hesitant on buying something that makes it look so easy.... well I can’t get on the roof to do it anymore so I have to hire someone to do it. Costs about $200 to get a 1storey 1600sq ft roof done. Not anymore this product works amassing with little effort. Extremely impressed with the materials and construction. Well built easy to store very compact and light. Well done!!

The avalanche extension was used to extend the reach of our avalanche rake & cutter. It was very useful in reaching higher parts if roof. The extension was strong and through use during snowy winter, held up very well.

I don't normally write reviews on amazon products, but I need to give this a 1 star review. It's basically crap. The first problem is the extension poles (and the poles themselves) are so heavy!!!! I am a decently strong male, and I can't even hardly use the device with the extensions added on because its no joke like 45 pounds. The next problem is the poles get stuck together, you can see in the picture that they clip together. Well the clips get stuck, really stuck. I had to use a hammer and basically break the poles apart to put the thing away. I'm giving the extensions a 1 star review, however I am happy with the base product. The main avalanche is fine but the extensions are a waste of money unless you are super strong and handle it. Also you will need a place to store the entire unit (which could be around 24 feet long) with these extensions, if you can't actually get the extensions to come apart. Like I said I needed to resort to a hammer to just break the extension poles apart to put it away. Other wise I was trying to fit a 24 foot long thing in my garage that would not easily come apart. At this point the extension poles thankfully are separate from the unit and I am using the base unit fine. The extension poles will probably go to the dump at some point. Useless to me because can hardly lift the unit with them on.

Worked well to get to my roof when 2 stories down. Can't use more than one extension because the bow in the pole limits you. If you put more poles on the system the head would never come off the ground before you could lift your end as high as possible.I had a couple times where I needed the extra reach of this extension kit. When the kit was added to the roof rake I couldn't physically lift the head from the last section of extension pole and then when I moved up on the pole to where I could lift the head off the ground I would have the pole hit the ground behind me stopping me from lifting the head high enough to get the head on the roof.So one extension kit maxes out the avalanche system

I purchased this with the Avalance roof rake to help clear my high roof. Unfortunately / fortunately the handle material is very light weight. Thus using the original length pools for the Avalance is quick and not as much effort as my aluminum based roof rake. However adding the extra sections makes the Avalance very unwieldy and I have ended up not using this extension and instead standing on a sturdy step ladder. If you do need to purchase this here is my recommendation. Take the original section and hang it on the end of your roof. Then with the Avalance roof rake hanging on your roof, then attach the extension. The wheels on the Avalance means you don't have to lift the rake and deal with it flopping all of the place and you can hopefully not have to also bring out a step ladder for the additional height. My recommendation to the makers of Avalance, make the extension about of a more sturdy material and then have a sturdy extension plus the lightweight base pole.

Haven't had an opportunity to use it but I CAN'T WAIT until I do! Last year was terrible and we suffered some roof leakage from so much snow. This is the extension to the actual snow dohickey removal. We need an extension to get to our roof.
