I assumed that “24 hours” was a cute way of saying that 24 hour’s worth of practice, or drills, or something, was required to memorize the fret board. I was mistaken. He really means one day. I am a beginner with six weeks worth of lessons under my belt. Even with my level of inexperience, I was able to memorize the entire fretboard in an afternoon. Candidly, the book could really be condensed down to a long magazine article. But it was worth the price of the book to so easily learn all the notes.

I'm an experienced guitarist with 1000s of gigs and touring under my belt. I was looking to memorize the fretboard so I can expand my knowledge of guitar theory. The author says in the book that you could learn the fretboard in 5-10 minutes. You don't need 24 hours. At first I laughed, but it's true.I started my stopwatch on the first page and at 42 minutes and 25 seconds I had the fretboard memorized. The only reason it took me 42 minutes is because I was reading and re-reading parts. I also spaced out for 25 minutes to play guitar. Overall, it took me less than 10 minutes to learn the fretboard. When I say memorized, I don't mean fluency. Fluency is where you can call out every note in under 1 second like a virtuoso. No, that requires practice to master. What this book will do is get you to know every note and be able to call it out in under 5 seconds. That's impressive considering there's no studying or memorization techniques involved.I'm also pleased the author included a bonus section in his revised edition. I like how he includes music theory and application to the notes. This book is a must-read for any skill level guitarist!

I am loving this book so far! No complaints there. I have been taking lessons, watching YouTube videos, and using a method book for classical guitar to learn music notation, for the past 8 months or so. And just in the first third of the book, I had some a-ha moments. Why do so many teachers not even try to teach the foundation of music theory? I am really happy with what I'm learning. Useful, I'm learning, but it's not overwhelming. But if you go to the author's store (click "guitar head" near the title description), there are other good options, especially the option to get 2 other books along with this one at $10 for ebook version. I wish I had seen this before purchasing this one.

This is the 1st book by Guitar Head I purchased. It was not the last. To begin it makes the statement that you will learn the fretboard ALL of it in 24 hours. I am new to the guitar (as a player) I played drums most of my life. Being around guitarists I picked up some stuff. But never looked at the guitar as my instrument. Issues with my spine and hip changed all that. I still wanted a creative outlet. So the guitar was the perfect outlet. I bought a Les Paul and while on Amazon tripped over this book. Did you know all of their books come with download able goodies to help you on your way? So I downloaded and began reading. It was far closer to eight hours and I had learned the fretboard. Took the mystery right out of it. I knew the fretboard. Granted it takes longer to know by sight and finger placement. But the basics are right there. It is a weight lifted!! An Ah-Ha moment. From there I moved on to other titles knowing that they know how to help you learn. Guitar Head books are written by Guitarists for Guitarists. They are there to help you become A better guitarist. Easy to follow and if you follow what's written, do the exercises they deliver what they promise. Give them a try. What do you have to lose?

I've bought several titles which is an endorsement in itself. I find the authors are serious about guitar at the same time light hearted and encouraging. You'll find out that you not the only student struggling with new musical ideas. For the price you can't go wrong plus the bonus material is relevant and easily downloaded.

Good method for learning and memorizing the fretboard, but too much cross-selling in the process, and in order to download the free aids for this book, you have to get on one of those annoying every day mailing lists. I’d rather pay a little more and not feel coerced into an extended sales pitch. Sell me on the merits of the book and I’ll buy more. Nobody likes to be nagged into buying anything, no matter how cute the copy is written.
