I almost feel I conjured this guitar dream travel into existence. It's quiet when you want to practice in your hotel room or tent. The 1/4 inch pick-up works well. I have 3 sizes of speaker I can bring with me while on the road. Of course, the body is quite different, so it'll take some getting used to. This guitar, like the Martin backpacker, has to be played with a strap. Once you get used to it, you'll love this guitar. I'm thinking of buying another just in case they stop making these. Thank you for this divine creation! Small suggestion for improvement: my attachment for the guitar strap isn't a standard size, so it took me a bit to find the right adapter in a great music store in Stockholm. If you create a new generation of these, please fix, because the guitar has to be played with a strap. However, no biggie ;)

Given it's size, weight & travel role, this ax is *great*. If you want sublime acoustic tones, or ergonomic perfection or a well balanced body from this thing, you don't "get it". I bought it to take guitar & jazz trio classes at community college more easily. The sound is good - with my AFX preamp, the sound is great. The neck is a pleasure, the action was good, right out of the box. This thing is for travel, practice & fun, but if my Cordoba got sat on by my drummer, I could finish a set with the Ultralight. HF. ed after playing the Ultralight Nylon for some weeks: I DO have this thing on an old 3" wide cotton bass strap to solve neck dive, if I had big fingers tuning the E strings would be a PITA, a volume control would be nice. I stand by my review tho, perhaps taking away a half star, because with this price and size I am I have a guitar in my hands far more often - I'm not risking my wife, but this thing can go anywhere.

As soon as I saw this innovative guitar months ago, I wanted it. I play a classical guitar but I also have been wanting something electric that I could plug into my computer for digital music creation, or into some amplification for gigs. I am thrilled at how good the thing sounds, the play-ability of it, the portability, the beauty, craftsmanship, and in general, just how cool it looks. After reading reviews before ordering, my one concern was whether the neck in relationship to the small body would want to fall, but with a strap connected over my shoulder, that does not happen. It stays in great balance. I look forward to getting an effects pedal so I can switch from the pure acoustic sound to electric effects. When not playing it, I hang it on a peg in our mudroom, and it classes things up. The travel bag fits it perfectly with a small pocket for its accompanying tools or other things I need for it. This thing is awesome!

I wanted this because it was THE smallest guitar that appeared from reviews to be able to stay in tune and let you know when you make a mistake AND that would allow me to carry ONE bag in addition to my laptop bag onto an airplane and NEVER check a bag. It fits snugly into an Osprey Trillium and despite what the Trillium reviews say it fits into every overhead I've been in and I fly out of a small airport with 3 seat row airplanes. As for the guitar, it does stay in tune, I changed the nylon strings to steel light guage, without a pick it is very quiet, with a pick you can definitely play with friends that have good volume control to keep it down. When you plug it in it is as loud as you want. Slightly tinny, but so worth the price and portability. If you travel a lot and don't like to check a bag, slip this puppy into your Trillium and keep going!!

The guitar is okay, but I had to spend about $75 to get it worked on. The strings kept breaking within a few days. After going thru a few packs I took it to a luthier who saw that the metal at the head was cutting the strings! He fixed it by filing down the metal and I had to buy another new pack of strings which he put on. So I am angry about the quality control at this company.Again the metal at the head tore the strings!

Update: I have lugged this around on planes for 2 years now. Stuffed it in the back of the overhead bins, with carryons in front. Never had an issue with bringing it along or stowing it. Recently forgot to take it out and had to have the airline ship it to me. Carrier lost it and it bounced around in the system for 2 weeks! Happy to report that it still looks and feels like on the day I bought it. This is a very sturdy instrument!Original review (2016): I bought this recently, and here are my first impressions after playing on (with) it for a while. The basic guitar feels very solid. It is surprisingly heavy when you pick it up. So far, I have no issues with the tuning - all 6 strings tune smoothly and stay tuned as nicely as my regular guitar. The leg rest is very useful to get it up to a more typical playing position. And although it doesn't appear so, the strings and fretboard are where you would normally expect them. The neck is a tiny bit narrower than a normal classical guitar, but it is not a big issue. After fiddling around with the setup a bit, I now find this to be a very useful practice tool for when I am traveling or don't want to make a lot of noise in the house. While you can hear the strings being plucked, it is about as loud as an electric guitar without amplification.Speaking of amplification and sound: after experimenting for a bit, I settled on the headphone amplifier made by Electro Harmonix . Very neutral, and very sturdy (metal enclosure). The direct plug-in amplifiers (e.g. Vox) don't work for me because the output is resting on your leg if you play in classical guitar position. The iPhone/iRig solution is just too messy (too many cables) and the slight delay isn't good for practicing. The Shadow pickup is extremely sensitive. Whether you find this a positive or a negative is a matter of taste: I like it as I will hear even the tiniest mistakes I make in plucking and every little bit of string buzz I create. So it's great for practicing. If you want to perform with this, you may find it a little bit too unforgiving. The gig bag is sturdy too and has an outside pocket that is big enough to hold the leg rest, spare strings, an amp cable and some other small utensils. It also has a single adjustable shoulder strap, which makes it easy to carry along. Here's what I think could be improved:- The leg rest is extremely slippery and tends to slide around on the pants. I dealt with that by wrapping the bottom part with some silicon tape. Now it stays nicely in place.- It would have been nice if this had a headphone amplifier. Although the sound of this guitar isn't really comparable to a classical guitar, the strings ring out nicely - which you can't hear without a headset. There is a 1/4" output which can be used to connect to an amplifier. But if you play in classical guitar position, the jack will rest on your leg, making any connection very awkward. A headphone jack on the top would be the way to go.- A second rest on top for the arm would have been nice. Without it, your right arm has to float in the air, making it a bit more awkward to play. (I now find myself resting my right arm on my right leg to play. Messes with my posture, but at least it works.) This also negatively affects- Stability. The only way to get this stable in your lap appears to be by using a strap. There are two strap buttons, but the one in the middle is useless. Find a strap with a loop on one end - if the loop is not too wide, it will fit under the strings at the top of the neck.In summary, this is great for someone who wants to keep practicing while they are traveling but don't want to (or can't) take a full size guitar with them. This is the smallest solution that still provides a full scale neck. And it looks sturdy enough to survive airline overhead bins.I'll be taking it overseas this summer, and I will follow up if that leads to any problems.
