It is definitely worth its price. As usual with any new mid-tier hand plane, it needs to be flattened a bit, but after the flattening and the sharpening of the blade, it works very well.

I thought what the heck for $54 I'll try the Groz #7 plane. I expected and spent hours attempting to get it all online including the blade / iron.Poor decision on my part.I couldn't return it fast enough. Thanks Amazon!

Like all planes the blade needed to be flattened, shaped and honed. Once done this plane does an above average job. I recommend this to newbies to woodworking. Well worth the price.

I've got 3 other Groz planes that I use to teach beginner hand tool woodworking with to women and kids that aren't strong enough to handle my heavier Lie Nielson. Wood River and Stanley planes. I decided to order this Groz no 6 fore plane and set it up as a joiner plane. When the plane got here it was stuffed into a plain brown box with no packing on the inside. It didn't come in the normal orange Groz box as all of my other Groz planes did. It was in a bag covered in the oil to protect it from salt to keep it from rusting same as my Wood River planes did. When i picked up the box I heard the rattling and figured, well I'm in trouble now. When I pulled the plane out it was totally disassembled in the protective bag. I sure new I was in trouble then. You do NOT ship hand planes like that.I went ahead and cleaned the plane and then honed the iron on on it. I started trying to put it together and the first thing I noticed there was no adjusting screw to adjust the iron in and out of the opening. Have no idea where that is.When I finally got the frog mounted and the screws in, it was difficult to move the frog forwards or backwards. When I started to install the iron, and finally got it to seat in the frog, I couldn't retract the iron all the way back into the plane. To get that to work, then the iron wouldn't seat in the frog correctly.I've given up on the plane, and Groz, and will find another brand light weight no 6 fore plane for my students, which I don't charge a dollar to teach them hand tool woodworking to help keep the art alive.

Though I'm not too fond of the iron (blade) thickness, (the blade did flatten, sharpen and work ok, though) I had on hand other, better blades. This said, with maybe 5 minutes lapping (flattening the bottom) which is less than half the time I spent on more expensive brands, and the frog actually properly factory seated, good quality milling, a little rough on the sole but it smoothed out easily, an adjuster knob that takes 1-1/2 turns to begin adjusting, not like the 5 turns to start adjusting blade depth on the $140 Taytools #5-1/2 plane I had previously bought, smooth adjustments, chip breaker is the cheaper low end curved style but mated well on the iron with minimal effort. The tote (handle) actually fits my large hands pretty well, a pleasant surprise. All in all, I would very much recommend this plane. It is much better than spear &Jackson planes, and would rate it a better value than my Taytools #5-1/2, which I mentioned before, the one with a sloppy adjuster, and chattery blade which I suspect may be a frog seating problem, nonexistent in the GROZ plane.I can get a very fine wispy shaving with this GROZ with minimal trouble or adjustment, and despite the weight being more than my quite old Stanley #6, it is easy to use.My experience is a happy one with this GROZ, and plan to purchase more of their products. It's every bit as good as my Grizzly #5, my Stanley#6, and the old wooden planes I've refurbished (if not better)

How are more people not talking about this brand, and this plane?!I was very pleasantly surprised when I opened up the box to see an properly finished hand plane. not the rough, it'll fitted piece of iron that I expected. The bottom was flat, the powder coating thick and robust. And the surfaces nearly didn't need to be lapped!I was very pleased with the lever cap (as opposed to many screw caps that are seen at lower price points), frog fitment and the tolerances overall. Within 10 minutes I was producing tissue paper thin shavings.I really am pretty amazed at the value, quality, and features they were able to pack into a plane of this size at this price point. It almost doesn't seem possible. If I had to nitpick anything at all it would be the chip breaker being a bent steel construction as opposed to being machined. But, come on! Most planes do not have a machined chip breaker. And those that do cost many, many times more than what I paid for this killer little fore plain.A+, would buy again.
