Record 778 rebate plane
The Record 778 rebate plane has two cutter positions, one for normal rebating work and a forward position for planing into corners and difficult positions.
The adjustable fence supplied can be used on either side of the plane to accurately control the size of the rebate.
Cast iron body with accurately ground base.
Five thread depth adjusting screw for precision control of shaving thickness.

I bought this, as a used versions of the plane were going for more than this new. I was a little concerned, as some say the quality of machining isn't where it was for vintage planes. I took a machinist square to the plane, and found all surfaces of the body of the plane ground square. The fence is where is was out of square by a few degrees. I ended up putting the fence on backwards (reference face out), putting an extra course diamond stone against my table saw fence, and moving the plane over a piece of paper to protect the table saw and plane faces, as I very slowly ground it square. There was a substantial amount of metal that needed removed, but in the end I'm very happy with the result. I also needed to flatten the plane iron back---but that was expected.

Production could have spent more time deburring the machined surfaces and a bit more care in packaging makes sense.

La pialla funziona bene, la suola è piatta, le guide scorrono bene senza giochi. È necessario eliminare qualche sbavatura dal corpo ed affilare bene la lama ed i nicker. Unico punto negativo il limitatore di profondità è un piccolo pezzo realizzato da fusione particolarmente male, ma funziona.

The plane came nice and quick which was a pleasant surprise. It was wrapped in bubble wrap and in a box of its own so no damage apparent. I tried using it out of the box just to see how it was set up. It did make a nice cut but clearly could use a bit of honing - which I have now done. It has a spur on also for cross grain cuts which is a bonus. I would love a Lie Nielsen or Veritas plane of all sizes and styles, but can't personally afford one at the moment. The cast body is a solid build and doesn't feel like a toy, or that it is going to fall apart after a few strokes. It is comfortable to hold and needs little in the way of effort to use once the blade is suitably sharp. I would definitely recommend this to anyone looking to cut rebates that is current using (as I was up to this point) just a chisel.

Ich weiß nicht ob es ein Fehler oder einfach nur ein geniales Angebot war, ich hatte jedenfalls das Glück den Hobel für weniger als die Hälfte des üblichen Preises zu ergattern.Der Hobel ist exact Winklig, die Sohle weitestgehend Plan. Lediglich der Parallelanschlag ist nicht ganz gerade.Die Klinge sollte man unbedingt Nachschärfen und, viel Spaß dabei das klebrige Öl was zum Rostschutz nicht sparsam verwendet wurde vernünftig zu entfernen.Den Vorschneider um Fälze quer zur Faser zu schneiden muss man ebenfalls vorher noch schärfen.
