A 20-fret Acoustic with Historic Gretsch Attitude With its period-correct body shape and traditional hardware placement, Sweetwater guitarists agree that the Jim Dandy acoustic guitar is a stunningly authentic replication of Gretsch's classic mail-order model. The secret to matching this iconic tone is laminated tonewoods, which provide the warmth and sonic punch that's expected of the company's revered backyard strummers. Additional vintage features including all-nickel hardware and open-gear tuning machines further supply an unmistakable appearance, while ensuring solid performance reminiscent of the instrument's original fixtures. Porch pickin', travel jamming, you name it — Gretsch's classic "Rex" has been through it all. This guitar is an amazing value. The neck and fingerboard are as smooth as glass and the guitar basically plays itself. Great sound for any style, but it shines when your play a blues line.

The Jim Dandy Dreadnought is a great little guitar for the money. On the Frontier stain model the guitar body is made from Laminated Sapele which gives the instrument a surprising balanced tone and projection. The overall finish of the guitar is perfectly executed with no blemishes. It’s C shaped Nato neck sports a Walnut fretboard that has a good and comfortable feel. The frets were nicely finished and have no sharp edges or fret sprout. The open gear tuners hold well and have a smooth comfortable feel. The action out of the box was ok but I lowered it to suite my playing style. It is perfect instrument for a beginner or a musician who desires a inexpensive but decent instrument.

Don't be fooled by the price point, this is a well put together guitar. The tone is amazing, it is easy to play, and the frets were nice, level, and rounded off. No snags along the edge of the neck, like on other guitars in this price range. Would buy another just to have a backup. I also own The parlor sized original Jim Dandy. I'm very happy with the comfort and quality of sound that these guitars put out. These guitars seem to want to play the blues, especially fingerstyle.
