Plug and play, or for the logical generation, you screw it in. I put on latex gloves so I didn't touch the bulb (good idea) and it works fine.

I use these bulbs for my exterior light that I have on my building. I use it from Dusk to Dawn light and my last bulb lasted 2 years. If I get as many hours out of this one as I did my last one I will be extremely happy with that. It is a very long-lasting bulb for a Dusk to Dawn exterior light. I hope this helps your decision.
