I used this to replace a blown speaker in my old Vaio pass through sub on my computer, and it worked out great.

I wasnt sure about them until i saw them. I got them to refrest a pair of Realistic optimus pro 77s. And they dont fit without heavy modifications. But i got them in and they sound great. Like others have said, they arent woofers. But they do fill in very nicely with the sub i have by my bed. All in all im very happy with them.

It's a decent speaker for it's price, but it is not a subwoofer. Frequency response is 62 - 12,000Hz which means it is a woofer. A subwoofer will range from 20 - 200Hz. You will not "feel" any kind of hit from the bass reproduced by this speaker. However, the sound is clear for the frequencies the speaker was designed to reproduce.

I've used Goldwood speakers for years. Mostly to replace rotted or blown woofers. On occasion, I've been surprised when the Goldwood speakers sound better than the originals. Their 12" woofers in a sealed enclosure sound great. This is the second set of 5.25" speakers I've used. The first set was the 8-ohm version used to restore a set of the famous Radio Shack Optimus Pro 77 metal enclosure bookshelf speakers (not a drop-in replacement for those but sound great after modifying the case and adding a proper crossover). For this purchase, I replaced a set of badly rotted Polk Audio bookshelf speaker woofers (MW5805) from 1996. They almost fit perfectly, I just had to nip off the corners with tin snips so they would recess properly. This is a rare case where they didn't sound quite as good as the originals. They have too much reinforcement in the low-mids, but it's not terrible. It's subtle and most people probably wouldn't notice. The Polk bookshelf speakers are a 2-port tuned cabinet. While ported enclosures are good for modern pop music, I tend to favor sealed enclosures for tighter bass response for the kind of music that I listen to.The original speakers tested close to 4-ohm. The enclosure already contained an internal crossover. I wish I had ordered both the 4-ohm and 8-ohm version, because it's possible that the 8-ohm version would shift the crossover point down lower in the woofer, possibly eliminating the midrange overtones. It's also possible that the original woofers tested as 4-ohm but could be some different (custom) impedance like 5-6 ohms. I couldn't find the original specs.Goldwood speakers, in my experience, work best in sealed enclosures, or tuned enclosures designed for the exact speaker parameters. Of course Polk optimized their enclosure for their original speakers, so of course I'd expect that difference here as well. The good news is that the situation improved as they broke in. They have some tight cones from the factory. Keep in mind that I have vintage audio gear all over the house, different systems in every room. So my ears didn't just "get used to them" as some people claim in the myths about "break in". IMO, Goldwood speakers definitely come tight from the factory and need to loosen up before they get a warmer tone. I ran these speakers at 50-75% volume and power for days straight. Both playing music and by playing break-in (low frequency) tones downloaded from YouTube. Made a difference for sure.Aside from the some of the midrange overtones, the lower bass range does hit a little harder though than the originals. So with a little EQ tweaks, I got these sounding good and saved my vintage Polks from a landfill very inexpensively. If you are an audiophile, there are better options. I wouldn't use them in a high-end home theater. But for restoring a set of bedroom,. basement or garage speakers, Goldwood speakers are solid and reliable. An excellent value for a good quality replacement speaker. Much higher quality than the old "Radio Shack" speakers of the old days, and on par with the "Dayton Audio" speakers of today IMO.

I have and old Porsche that came out with woofer, mid and tweeters in the doors. This speaker fit almost perfect and the most important was the sound / real bass. Before I tried other 3 sets of mid range and tweeter in the same speaker (infinity, Sony pioneer) bypassing the crossover but the sound wasn’t any good so went back to the original design (three separate speakers) and bingo!! these speakers did the trick. Very pleased
