This was a direct replacement and fit the Tundra tailgate exactly. The quality was excellent. Note that it does not come with a lock. The original one snapped in place. Toyota quoted $198 plus tax. This was 1/10th of the cost and equal quality.

2006 Toy Tundra tailgate handle. Original broke and would not unlatch gate. remove inside panel of gate. take out old, install new using existing rods on either side. probably pull up utube if you need more details.

Install was easy. Latch broke on my gen 1 tundra and this was a perfect replacement. I moved over the lock from the old to the new. Came with all necessary parts and took less than 15 minutes to install. Great value and quality seems good too.

Toyota Dealer wanted almost $300 for this part, without a new lock. Install was easy, but two important warnings: When you finish the install with the tailgate down, DO NOT CLOSE THE TAILGATE WITH THE LOCK IN THE LOCKED POSITION. Also, the tension clip that holds the lock in place can be a bit tricky to remove and install if you don't have "C clip" Pliers. One last thing: The access panel on the tailgate is held by 8 star-drive screws. You will wear out your wrist removing and replacing them by hand. Easier if you have a star drive bit for a ratchet or cordless driver.

I order this not knowing for sure how well it would work. I love my old 06 Tundra and it fit it perfectly. I was even able to install the old lock (easily) into the latch. Took me 5 minutes to do everything. Take an extra minute and spray lube on everything while you're at it. Excellent!

The handle fit perfectly. However on first install it would not open the tailgate. Nothing wrong with this handle. There are two tiny clips that hold the latch rods. Those were lose causing the handle not to function when first installed. Got the clips from Toyota $4 each. Everything works perfectly now. Also the original handle hand disappeared and needed to be replaced anyways.

Got this when the original handle on my truck broke. It arrived on time as promised and was very easy to install and matched up perfectly with the original equipment in the tailgate. The original lock fit right into the new handle and everything has worked very well. It actually took longer to remove the old panel covering the inside of the tailgate and remove the old handle than it took to install the new handle. Hopefully I won't have to order one of these again, but if I do I will definitely order this one.

The new latch for my 2006 Toyota Tundra SR5 worked great. It was also easy to install and I am certainly no expert. I installed it during halftime of the Georgia & LSU game. The product appears to be of high-quality material and it was a perfect fit. The finish is smooth and not textured like the original part but if you are standing a foot away you can't tell the difference. The reason that I gave it a rating of 4 instead of 5 was because it had two very small scratches that I initially believed to be cracks. The tailgate latch comes with everything necessary to replace the old latch with the exception of the two bolts that are used to secure the latch to the tailgate and the key lock. If the old parts are still available they would be fine to use again. This particular tailgate latch is well worth the money and I wouldn't hesitate to buy another one.
