I'm no stranger to fiber prep, I own a blending board, drum carder, and hand cards, as well as a professional spinner. Thought I'd try this as it is a small size for classes or to lend out.The only thing useful is the cloth. And you need a piece of wood and a stapling gun to finish it (glue does not work). The dowels aren't smooth (honestly, metal knitting needles are better). And the brush is just a pet hair one of lower quality, not durable, and it is for cleaning the cloth, not brushing. You need a stiff paint brush or a burnishing brush. That said, getting this board started requires a lot more and is not easy, costing much more than the this item itself.Just rating the cloth. It is much more coarser than all the other blending boards. This is just good for small textured art batts and rolags. If you want to blend different fibers/colors or smooth texture, you'll need to remove the batt and reblend it at least once, risking over-processing neps. I would guess this is 54 TPI (vs 72 of other blending boards).Size wise, I got 0.5oz on there, probably could aggressively squish 1oz of fiber (14g to 28g). Typical blending board is 2oz. The amount of work to make a batt is the same on the larger board.

With the wire sheet and the brush, I was able to blend two color wool into a batch. I am not sure what the wood sticks are for though. The set makes it easier to mix wool and I am happy about the purchase.

I enjoy fiber arts - everything from working with the animals on a Fiber Farm to spinning my own yarn.I had never owned a Blending Board and was excited to try this one. However, right out of the package I was disappointed to see that the tines in the middle of the board were bent (I could actually see the hole in the envelope that it was in) and then was shocked that the carding tool was actually a dog grooming brush.Still, after watching some instructional videos on YouTube, I tried it with some wool roving that I had dyed. Well...the minute you use the brush it lifts the entire board up as there's nothing to weight it in place. Because there's very little rubber edge, if you try to use your fingers/hand to hold it down so that you can brush without lifting - then you're poking yourself with the tines. Very disappointed with this product.

I am an avid crocheter and love the idea of moving into creating my own yarn. Though I am admittedly a beginner, this kit may not have been my best choice..It consists of a flexible pad, two plain wooden dowels, and a literal dog grooming brush. I mean, E for effort here - maybe they were faced with a glut of dog brushes, and why not just drop them into fiber kits, right? The pad really needs to be secured to a board to be useful. I was carefully holding it down with one hand while trying to brush my wool with the other. i just gave up pretty quickly.

Thick and a good weight, I plan on using heavy-duty staples to fix this in place on an old wood cutting board for stability and laying on my lap or desk. The depth of the tines is ideal for packing fiber onto the cloth and while my cat ran away at the site of the slicker brush, he doesn't have to be concerned; this one is only for fibers I want to be in the blend. Looking forward to giving this more than a cursory pass once it's fixed in place.

Edit: The seller has made improvements and offers a MUCH improved version now. However, it is a different listing. Sadly, the system won't let me link to it or review it. Click the sellers name at the top of the listing to see other items, and you will see a blending board with a kickstand. It's really nice. And my brush from that kit arrived undamaged. Review of the original product below.I'm disappointed in this. This is not a ready to use blending board. It's a square of tined rubber and a dog brush. It comes in a padded envelope, so there is no protection against the tines getting bent. Granted, many people use dog brushes as carders, but this isn't even a good dog brush. It's small, and the tines are kinda bent. And it's still got the dog brush information on the packaging. The tined rubber (silicone?) needs to be nailed to a board before you can use this. As someone else said, this is basic spaced, it won't do fine fibers very well. It also comes with two dowels that you can use to make rolags or batts. You know, after you go to the store, buy a board, cut it to size, sand down the edges, go back to the store because you forgot the hinge, come back and cut a thin piece off the scrap board, sand that too, and install it with the hinge so you have a kickstand, and finally nail the tined rubber onto the board. If you used glue as well, leave more time for that to dry. This is not convenient when I need to make it myself.

I have had a few batting boards over the years, all of which were pre assembled. This batting cloth doesn't have the gauge of the needle size, but it would probably work ok for varying types of fleece and fiber blends. I am using it to help card out my cotswald mix. It should be ok to mix battings, though I'm not sure how refined they will get since the teeth are pretty spaced. If you are wanting to work with tussah silk and similar fine fibers like cotton this is probably not the right batting blender set as the thickness will be better for heavier animal fibers. It's an ok price for the set, but you will need to get your own board to secure the cloth onto.
