worked well for me. my outside installed water softener froze when temp went far below 0. Tech advised to get this and wrap the softener tank with it. And yes these cables did the job. as these self controlled would turn on/off as needed based on outside temp , i can leave them on the softener. this is big advantage.

The picture of the product led me to believe that it could be wrapped around the pipe. However, that is not correct - it must be attached to the underside of the pipe and run longitudinally.I was unable to use the product in my application.

I got this cable 50FT Heating Cable for Pipe Heavy-Duty, Self-Regulating, Freeze Protection for Roof, Plastic and Metal Water Pipes. I thought I would be able to use it underneath my flooring to have a heated floor and I was wrong. I didn't look into it close enough before I got it and so we ended up taking it out to the horse pasture and using it during the winter when the lines freeze up on the water.

This product started warming as soon as I plugged it in, it’s worth every pennyThe only thing you might have to worry about is if your power goes out than it will stop heating, I’m fortunate enough to have a generator, so no worries

I live in Washington I have a pump house with a 5000 gallon water tank. Normally it keeps everything in the pump house from freezing but this winter my pipes froze and burst I had to get them replaced and now I use this heat tape so they will never freeze again.
