My workroom is pretty crowded, and over the years I've installed more shelving that gets higher and higher. I now have shelves that go all the way to the ceiling. This makes reaching all the way up a pain, since I have to drag out a ladder. At my age, climbing ladders is something to be avoided. This pickup tool is da bomb. I can stand firmly on the floor, while reaching all the way to the top shelves. This tool is well made out of good quality materials. Fit and finish are excellent. The tool has rubber grippers that hold firmly. The tool has a sliding collar that allows it to be folded in half to minimize storage space. Highly recommend. 5 stars.

This product was a great idea, but it was not done well. Most of the design is solid and it is made from sturdy materials, but it does not hold up to the claims made in the description. First of all the grip is not 4.5 inches on the one I received. It is just below 4 inches, and the grip tapers in so it does not reach around something even 3.75 inches wide/round.My biggest problem with the folding pick up tool is the mechanism that is supposed to lock it in place when it is unfolded for use. There is a sleeve that slides up and over the two ends to hold them in place. (As shown in the pictures I included with this review.) But, it does not lock into place, so when you tilt the arm upwards to grab from a higher shelf it just slides down and the arm folds up while in use.I got this folding pickup tool because we have a 10 foot ceiling in our pantry so there are some high shelves. It would have been super convenient to grab small jars and boxes without having to unfold a ladder. Unfortunately if I tilt this tool to any degree upwards the sleeve just slides down and the tool folds up. I do not need a 72 inch grabber to reach things at my own shoulder height or lower, I can just reach them.If you need a tool for just horizontal reach from a stationary position then this tool might work for you. You will need some upper body strength. When fully extended it is kind of heavy. Not sure how you will get he items close enough to grab with your hands though at 72 inches long it seems designed for far away stuff.
