I like the unit and it works well, however it doesn't hold its temperature well. The water in the tank cools off too much while sitting before the thermostat kicks in and reheats the water. Disappointing, but not worth pulling it, sending back and getting something else. I got the GE because I have always had really good luck with GE products. This one is a bit disappointing.

I chose the GE 2.5 gallon water heater, instead of much less expensive 2.5 gallon water heater options, because I thought it used a standard screw in heating element. In the promotional photos there is one that touts "durable stainless steel". That graphic clearly represents a screw in type element. I wanted this feature because I intended to convert the unit to 24V DC to run from my solar battery bank.Instead this unit has the same 5-bolt attached element, thermocouple, and anode bracket, just as most of the other 2.5 gallon water heaters that I had researched.Unfortunately I can't find anybody who makes an adapter. There are adapters for 4-bolt heating elements. But this 5-bolt flange seems to have few options even for sourcing a direct replacement. I'd be willing in spend 40 bucks to get a specimen that I could tinker with.Anyhow, as far as a 120V AC powered unit, I'm sure this will work fine. For me it means that my inverter will have to carry the load. And in my particular setup, I may need to turn off other AC loads while heating water.I settled on 3 stars because that photo should not be part of the marketing. The heating element is not just a factor for people like me who want to modify the unit. It should also be considered to be a commonly serviced component of a water heater.

I installed this under the kitchen sink in our one year old house. We have an an gas, exterior mounted on demand water heater near our master bedroom as out builder recommended. I took 73 seconds for somewhat hot water to get to the faucet. Not anymore!! It should be noted this is being used as a booster. I hooked it up for the kitchen faucet and dishwasher. It works great. I was worried as I plugged it into the same 20 amp outlet as the dishwasher, but it is working great. The dishwasher is a year old and energy star. There was a hitch that called for a second trip to the big box home improvement store. The inside diameter of the 1/2" NPT inlet and outlet are too small for the compression fitted braided hose that are used for this so an adapter was needed that had the typical 1/2" NTP inside diameter. Not a big deal as I should have brought the water heater with me, left it in the trunk, and checked all worked before leaving Home Depot on the first trip. We are very happy with this heater. GE has an eight year warrantee on it so I doubt I will have problems down the road for many years.

When you first turn the 6 gallon GE water heater on It heats up fine Set at 125*. Nice 128 degree water. The problem is when you turn the hot water on after it set overnight all you get is WARM water, 100*. The heater won't turn on until the water temperature goes below 100 degrees. I returned the GE and bought a CAMPLUX 6 gallon heater. The Camplux water heater works like it should. In my opinion, The Camplux is a much better heater. The only problem the Camplux Heater has is the electrical cord is to short, about 2 feet. I wired in a new outlet which was not that big a deal. Now my shop has nice 125* water in the morning.
