I used it to check for engine block and head warpage. Very good quality. It shipped to me in a sturdy cardboard tube.

I bought the straight edge to check cylinder heads, first thing i did was check it to see how straight it was. Basically you draw a line and flip it over and draw a line over the line you just drew. You measure any gaps and divide by 2. I can't even see a second line. Very happy!

I needed a straight edge better than a level and this did the trick, but it is not very thick and I was afraid to leave it on the table as it would likely get bent. Good for someone who only needs one occasionally but would not recommend for daily use.

Seems to be flat as advertised, worked for my application of checking a cylinder head and block for warping. Buy a decent set of feeler gauges to go with this and you'll be set. Comes well packaged in a cardboard tube with rubber end caps for protection.

I don't have a great reference to check this against for the full length, but I did put the straight edge on my 18x12x3 granite inspection block (that I know is good to about .0002). I tried various orientations on the block and I could not get a .001 shim under at any position. I was able to shine a light through a portion of the straight edge and estimate the largest gap to be less than .0005 (based on how much light i was able to get when sitting the straight edge on the .001 shim on the block). Very happy, especially for the price.

I had ordered 2 Straight edges, which made it easy to check if they were actually straight. They are very well packed and in round tubes. I would recommend this product.

It seems that other reviewers received their straight edge damaged, but mine was very well packaged, it came with rubber end caps on it, inside a cardboard tube that also had end caps that were taped on, and the whole package was shrink wrapped. Perhaps the packaging has been upgraded since those previous reviews. The product itself is very nice, has a nice extruded profile for easy handling, and the straight edge is machined flat. I don't have the equipment to confirm that it is in fact flat to 0.001" but it appears to be well machined. I'd say it's a good value.
