About this item

  • Designed for Precision - The Starrett 380 Series Steel Straight Edge is precision ground and nicely finished to rigid Starrett standards. It provides users with accurate and consistent results.
  • Not Beveled or Graduated - This tool does not have a mark of units for measurements and a slope on its edges. It is unexcelled for drawing or scribing straight lines and checking surfaces for straightness.
  • Easy to Use - The Starrett Steel Straight Edge thickness and design permit shape retention and accuracy. This tool is portable, easy to use and easy to handle.
  • Best Performance - The 380 and 385 Series in sizes 36" and longer are marked with arrows at two suspension points. If the straight edges are brought to the work and used on edge, they should be suspended at these two points to minimize deflection.
  • The Standard for Excellence - Proudly made in the USA, Starrett combines over 140 years of American heritage and innovation with globally sourced materials to deliver exceptional quality tools and products.

The 385 Series are beveled one edge, but not graduated. The 387 Series has one edge that is both beveled and graduated in 32nds of an inch. The 380 and 385 Series in sizes 36" and longer are marked with arrows at two suspension points. If the straight edges are brought to the work and used on edge, they should be suspended at these two points to minimize deflection. Most jobs involve the use of straight edges in the flat position - and it is in this position that we check most stringently. 72" (1800mm).

In October, 1007, I purchased the Starrette straignt edge for machenry alightment in a woodworking shop. I had an over 8 ft long jointer with difficulties getting straight flat boards. My other rules were too short to get accurate numbers. With the straightedge and feeler gauge I was able to correct the drooping infeed and outfeed tables with relationship to the spiral knives. Improved performace then was possible. Since then,I use the straight edge for flattening tablesaw extension and outfeed tables, planer setup of 4 foot bed and settling discussions. Very few people dispute Starrette. There is some overkill in accuracy but the satisfaction of using a good tool and solving one or more problems during setup is worth it when multiple adjustments are being made.
