The ideal position to hold the device is right where the power button is, I have turned it off while using it underwater a few times. While expected for a cheaper device, the range is very limited, we're talking maybe in inch. Not really useful just using this device, you'd want a dedicated metal detector with you and use this if after you have really focused on the area your target is at.

You can not see the display in the sun which is annoying since I was trying to use it at the beach.

I had my doubts, but it actually works, the display is a little dark in water and hard to see, but beeps and.vibrates under water, and I actually found some interesting worthless stuff on ocean floor.

Is not sealed around top of handle and will always get water in it. Totally malfunctions. Don’t waste your money on this one.
