The Freewell 82mm V2 Magnetic Hybrid VND/CPL 3-7 Stops Filter is a well-built accessory. The filter feels solid, and the magnetic attachment is strong and secure. The included lens cap is a nice touch, fitting snugly and adding to the overall convenience. However, I'm not entirely convinced about the necessity of a magnetic variable ND filter. While the magnetic system allows for quick and easy attachment, I didn't find it significantly more beneficial than traditional screw-on filters in my shooting scenarios. That said, this might be a matter of personal preference, and others might appreciate the magnetic feature more than I did.In terms of performance, the filter works well, providing a variable density range of 3 to 7 stops (ND8-ND128), which is versatile for various lighting conditions. The integrated circular polarizer function enhances color saturation and reduces reflections effectively. Additionally, the filter is crafted with top-grade German optics and features a multi-layered coating process, making it resistant to scratches, water, dust, and oil.Overall, if you're in the market for a hybrid VND/CPL filter and are intrigued by the magnetic attachment system, the Freewell V2 is worth considering. However, if you're comfortable with traditional screw-on filters, the magnetic feature may not offer significant advantages.

I wish the screws were captive, but otherwise the build is great. Between all the additional lens mounts and freewell lens caps I had to buy for all my lenses, this kit quickly got into the $300+ range. Then there's the color shift. When you adjust the circular polarizer it shifts magenta and green dramatically. Then once that’s set, the green or magenta cast (one out the other depending on where you set the CPL) gets worse as you stop down the ND. All this is easy enough to color correct out in post but has left me pulling my hair out when i don’t adjust enough on some clips or over adjust on others. So yeah, Ive gotten amazing images out of it but I wish I had waited for Polar Pro to release a similar product. Of and I’ve already lost a screw.I’ve gone hiking and backpacking with it and it held up well. Lens cap held tight and i love the finger ring it has so its around my finger while I shoot. It stinks to use the haze filter because the lens cap doesn’t hold on nearly as tight when you stack that on.All in all a solid C+ product.

It feels very delicate and easy to use, which improved the quality of my images. The only slight drawback is that the magnet cover is too heavy.

The good, this works color tones look accurate, the filters look good and and the magnets are strong. All other experiences were not good. Separating the rings and even detaching from the magnetic mounts even when loosened off is a nightmare, constant issues with having to pull one corner out with force which is minor compared to the major compatibility issues.#1 biggest gripe is where's a compatible lens hood to prevent light lens flaring? There is no lens hood thread and Freewell does not list any lens hoods for this. Not only is lens fare an issue how about a rain drop or 2 because there is no simple protection unless we consider the #2 issue#2 Freewell makes this system require THEIR stuff. Like THEIR step up ring specifically to use with my camera. What a matte box? I can not use my Existing matte box with this even after I bought their step ring and even have others of different sizes.#3 Lastly these Freewell filters have some form static charge, dust appears literally attracted to the glass. Worst of all these scratch very easily from house dust even when cleaning off with fresh Zeiss lens wipes.Sadly I can't recommend these.

This is my new go to ND for my A cam now and even for when I'm traveling. The color cast is very minimal and it's REALLY good compared to previous Freewell ND filters. Previous Freewell ND Filters had TERRIBLE color cast, but so do many other variable ND's. I was really searching for something that had minimal color cast and a good range like 3-7 stops. I didn't really care too much for the CPL filter and I don't think it works that well compared to a standalone CPL.The worst part about this ND filter are the 2 screws used to lock in the magnetic filter system. If you screw it too tight, then you'll lose the added benefit of it being magnetic and quick to swap. If you screw it too loose, it's going to fall out. And they're extremely small and inconvenient, and there are no extra screws provided. I've already lost one. This is a good ND for the price, but it could be better.
